Iran has selected acclaimed director Asghar Farhadi's latest film, Le Passe a.k.a The Past (2013) to represent it at the 86th Academy Awards. The film stars Bérénice Bejo (The Artist), Tahar Rahim (A Prophet), and Ali Mosaffa (Leila).
Earlier this year, The Past won Best Actress Award (Bejo) and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Cannes Film Festival.
In the United States, Sony Pictures Classics will distribute The Past. In the United Kingdom, Artificial Eye is in charge with the film's distribution. French label France Télévisions Distribution has already released The Past on Blu-ray. See our listing of this release here.
After four years of separation, Ahmad arrives in Paris from Teheran. He has been asked to come by Marie, his French wife, so that they can proceed with their divorce. During his brief stay in the city, Ahmad witnesses the conflictual relationship between Marie and daughter Lucie. His efforts to make the relationship better will reveal a past secret.
