British distributors Artificial Eye have informed us that Paolo Sorrentino's latest film
The Great Beauty has grossed more than £100,000 across 25 screens, which is the biggest opening for a Sorrentino film in the United Kingdom.
Starting this Friday, the film will now move to additional multiplexes across the country.
Because of local regulations, the street date for Artificial Eye's upcoming Blu-ray release of
The Great Beauty has been moved to January 13th, 2014.
Synopsis: Paolo Sorrentino's (
Il Divo, The Consequences of Love) deliriously entertaining new film plays out like a modern
La Dolce Vita. Sorrentino regular Toni Servillo -- whose entrance in the film is worth the price of admission alone -- plays Jep Gambardella, a once-acclaimed novelist-turned-columnist, through whose world-weary eyes we witness the decadence of a bankrupt culture consuming itself. The result is a brilliant, sumptuously shot satire of life in Berlusconi's Italy.
