For the week that ended on August 25th, Twentieth Century Fox's Epic topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. An animated adaptation of William Joyce's The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs, Epic managed a surprisingly robust theatrical run despite mediocre critical notices (the film's Metacritic total is 52%); the CGI adventure grossed over $253 million worldwide on top of a projected $100 million budget. Factoring into its sales was a Blu-ray market share of 40%.

Last week's winner, the Sony Pictures and Film District actioner Olympus Has Fallen dropped to number two under Epic on the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. This thriller - the second of 2013's two White House-centric actioners, with White House Down being the other screen option - overcame a lukewarm Metacritic total of 41% to connect with audiences, grossing over $161 million worldwide on top of a $70 million budget. Olympus Has Fallen sold 24% as many Blu-rays and overall units as Epic, and it had an HD market share of 39%.

Finally, Universal Studios' Oblivion rounded out the third spot on the Blu-ray-only media chart. The visually stunning sci-fi epic struggled in theaters last April, overcoming a critical reception of 54% to just make back its estimated $120 million production budget - Oblivion made over $89 million domestically and $286 million worldwide. On Blu-ray, the Tom Cruise-starring film sold 15% as many discs as Epic and had an HD market share of 46%. However, with regard to the overall package media list, it sold 13% as many units and came in fifth place; sitting above it in the third and fourth positions were, respectively, Killing Season and Scary Movie 5.
