Newly founded distribution company levelFILM has acquired the North American rights to acclaimed director Chen Kaige's Caught in the Web (2012), starring Yuanyuan Gao, Chen Yao, and Mark Chao. The company plans theatrical releases in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto in late October, followed by releases in additional markets later in the year.
Synopsis: A young woman's act of defiance becomes a flashpoint for controversy when a video of the incident goes viral in this prescient drama about cyber-bullying from celebrated director Chen Kaige.
LevelFILM, which was founded by ThinkFilm veterans David Hudakoc and Michael Baker, plans to distribute 10 to 12 titles per year.
In 1993, director Kaige won the prestigious Palme d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival with his beautiful romantic drama Farewell My Concubine, starring Gong Li and Leslie Cheung.
