Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have announced that Christopher McQuarrie, who won an Oscar for his 1995
The Usual Suspects screenplay, will direct the next installment in the
Mission: Impossible franchise. Tom Cruise will also be back to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt.
Director McQuarrie, Cruise, Paramount Pictures, and Skydance Productions recently teamed up on the blockbuster
Jack Reacher.
Iron Man 3 co-writer Drew Pearce will write the script for the fifth
Mission: Impossible film.
Following the announcement, Cruise, who will also serve as one of the film's producers, said: "I am thrilled to reunite with Chris for the latest installment in the Mission series. I began producing the films with the goal that a different director with his own vision would make each one. Chris is an extraordinary filmmaker who will deliver the heart-pounding action and thrills that audiences around the world have come to expect from the Mission: Impossible franchise."
