Blu-ray Sales, June 3-9: Die Hard Beats Identity Theft in HD Totals

For the week that ended on June 9th, Twentieth Century Fox's A Good Day to Die Hard took the top sales position on the Blu-ray-only chart. This fifth installment in the Die Hard franchise was the series' most critically lambasted entry - its Metacritic score topped out at 28% - though it still performed admirably at theaters around the globe, grossing over $304 million worldwide on top of its $92 million budget. During its first week of sales, the film had a Blu-ray market share of 49%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only rankings was Universal Studios' release of Identity Thief. Director Seth Gordon's follow-up to his 2011 hit Horrible Bosses also had a solid theatrical showing; the the $35-million picture grossed almost $135 million domestically, despite a Metacritic score of just 35%. On the Blu-ray chart, Identity Thief sold 83% as many discs as A Good Day to Die Hard and had an HD market share of 34%. When taking into consideration overall package media figures, however, the road comedy beat Die Hard - there, the Bruce Willis actioner came in at second place and sold 82% as many units as Identity Thief.

Finally, Summit Entertainment's Warm Bodies debuted at number three on the Blu-ray-only and overall package media lists. A comedy-horror romance that attempted to do for the zombie genre what Twilight did for the vampire story, Warm Bodies was one of last winter's sleeper successes, grossing over $116 million worldwide on top of its $35 million production budget (in addition, the picture scored a 59% Metacritic grade). The movie had a Blu-ray market share of 30% and sold 29% as many HD units as A Good Day to Die Hard; on the overall package media chart, it sold 39% as many copies as Identity Thief.
