Anchor Bay Entertainment has announced it will release Charlie Zone on Blu-ray on June 4th. Winner of four major awards at the 2011 Atlantic Film Festival, the dramatic thriller stars Amanda Crew (Sex Drive, Charlie St. Cloud, The Haunting in Connecticut), Glen Gould (Cashing In, Mohawk Girls) and Mpho Koaho (Saw III, Four Brothers, Blindness).
Synopsis: Charlie Zone tells the story of Avery Paul (Gould), a disgraced boxer and ex-convict who's hired to abduct a runaway (Crew) from a crack house in the city's notorious "Charlie Zone" and return her safely to her family. But nothing goes as planned and nothing is quite what it seems. What follows is a harrowing ride through the underside of a postcard Canadian city, as two lost people attempt to face the darkness -- in their world and themselves -- and somehow find redemption.
The film is a gritty panoramic of Halifax as it has become: one of the most violent and troubled cities in the nation, with its clash between rich and poor, young against old, race against race. Charlie Zone reflects the multicultural life of Halifax on its margins and in its ghettos, a place where police rarely intervene and where the residents are viewed as less than human. It's a compelling and dimensional portrait of a place, its people, and their struggle to survive.
