Independent distributors Raro Video USA have confirmed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray Italian director Roberto Rossellini's
Il generale della Rovere (1959), starring Vittorio De Sica, Hannes Messemer, and Sandra Milo. The release, which will contain the Director's Cut and Theatrical Version of the film, is set to arrive on the market in September.
Late 1950s war drama in which a thief becomes entangled in a Nazi plot to expose Italian Resistance fighters. As punishment for a crime he committed, con artist Grimaldi (De Sica) is forced to infiltrate a Milan prison by German Army officer Colonel Mueller (Messemer). Posing as General della Rovere, Grimaldi attempts to uncover which prisoners are members of the Resistance. Over time, however, he forms a strong bond with these inmates, which makes him reconsider his duty to the Germans.
