The Terracotta Film Club has announced that it will bring to the big screen legendary director Toshiya Fujita's classic blood-splattered Samurai masterpiece Lady Snowblood, starring Meiko Kaji, Toshio Kurosawa, and Masaaki Daimon. The film will be screened on Wednesday 24 April at 8.45pm at the Prince Charles Cinema, London.
Yuki Kashima (Meiko Kaji, Female Prisoner #701, Wandering Ginza Butterfly) is born to a mother who has suffered violence, rape and the unjust killing of her husband at the hands of a ruthless gang of criminals in the months prior to Yuki's birth. Her mother dies in childbirth and her last request is that Yuki be brought up to be a highly trained assassin with one aim in life: to avenge the death of her parents and kill the criminals who destroyed her family.
Lady Snowblood is a 1973 Japanese film based on a manga called Shurayukihime by Kazuo Koike (The Complete Lone Wolf & Cub) and Kazuo Kamimura. Lady Snowblood's theme song, Shura No Hana, sung by Meiko Kaji (translated by Tarantino as The Flower of Carnage) is also used in Kill Bill: Volume 1.
