Lincoln scored the top figures on both the overall package media and Blu-ray sales rankings. Director Steven Spielberg's historical drama drew rave reviews for its depiction of 16th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln - star Daniel Day-Lewis won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance as the title character - as well as a healthy box-office take; the $65 million feature grossed over $263 million worldwide. For its small-screen debut, the film garnered a 41% Blu-ray market share.
Holding onto the number two spot on the overall package media and Blu-ray-only rankings for a second week was Universal Studios Home Entertainment's release of the sweeping musical epic
Les Misérables. Director Tom Hooper's Academy Award-winning follow-up to his
The King's Speech grossed over $432 million top on of its estimated $61 million budget, and it only trailed behind
Lincoln by a slight margin last week; the film sold 77% as many Blu-rays as Spielberg's biopic and 70% as many total units, and it had an HD market share of 45%.
Finally, Warner Bros. and New Line Home Entertainment's
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey fell to number three on the Blu-ray and overall package lists. Director Peter Jackson's first prequel to his Academy Award-winning
Lord of the Rings Trilogy, which made more than $1 billion worldwide, debuted at number one on the home media market.
The Hobbit sold 72% as many Blu-rays as
Lincoln - and had a Blu-ray market share of 47% - and 64% as many total units.
