Silver Pictures and StudioCanal have agreed to produce a remake of director John Carpenter's cult film
Escape from New York. The film will be produced by Joel Silver and Andrew Rona and directed by Breck Eisner.
The original film follows an eye-patched bank robber who is sent into Manhattan, which has been converted into a maximum security prison, to save the President of the United States after his plane crash-lands there. The bank robber, named Snake Plissken, is played by Kurt Russell.
Early reports indicate that the producers of the upcoming remake are planning "an entirely new take on the material".
