Blu-ray Sales, February 4-10: Peter Pan and Flight Rise to the Top

For the week that ended on February 10th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment had the top Blu-ray figures with its release of Peter Pan. This animated adventure, one of Disney's most beloved films, has been a long-anticipated Blu-ray release, and that viewer enthusiasm helped propel it to the top spot with an HD market share of 100%.

Behind it on the Blu-ray chart was a decidedly more adult feature, Flight. Nominated for two Academy Awards - Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay - the addiction drama marks director Robert Zemeckis' first live-action picture since 2000's Cast Away. In addition to its critical accolades, Flight netted Paramount Pictures a healthy profit when it premiered theatrically last November, grossing over $93 million domestically on top of its estimated $31 million budget, and its Blu-ray showing certainly suggests further strong performance. The film garnered a 38% HD market share and sold 53% as many Blu-rays as Peter Pan. With regard to the overall package media chart, Flight actually took the number one spot; on that list, Peter Pan came in at third place and sold 72% as many total units as Flight.

Finally, coming in at number three on the Blu-ray rankings was Sony Pictures Entertainment's Hotel Transylvania. This CGI comedy - a collaboration between Adam Sandler and Dexter's Laboratory and Powerpuff Girls guru Genndy Tartakovsky - took in a domestic box-office haul of $148 million on top of its estimated $85 million production budget when it premiered theatrically last September. This past week, its Blu-ray market share was 36%, and it sold 41% as many HD units as Peter Pan. On the overall media chart, Hotel Transylvania ranked at second place, where it sold 82% as many total units as Flight.
