British distributors Artificial Eye have released the first image from controversial Danish director Lars von Trier's highly anticipated new film Nymphomaniac (2013). The film stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman and Jamie Bell.

The rights to the film, which is expected to have its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this year, are already sold in multiple territories: United Kingdom (Artificial Eye), Germany (Concorde) and France (Les Films du Losange).

Early reports indicate that the Danish director's latest film will be available in two versions: a sanitized Rated-R cut and NC-17 version. TrustNordisk is in charge with international sales.

Here's the official synopsis for Nymphomaniac: The film is a wild and poetic story of a woman's erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Gainsbourg). On a cold winter's evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Skarsgård), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi-faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.

Note: The following films directed by Lars von Trier are currently available on Blu-ray: Antichrist, Melancholia, and Dancer in the Dark.
