During the week that ended on November 25th, the home media market enjoyed robust sales throughout Thanksgiving week, with Black Friday and Cyber Monday two particular highlights. Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Brave definitely benefited from both online and brick-and-mortar retailers' many deals, as it yet again topped the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. The Pixar Animation adventure continued to perform strongly on small screens after its slightly underwhelming theatrical showing, though its HD market share fell somewhat - while that figure first totalled 51%, the market share dropped to just 28%.
The rest of the week's winners vary, depending on whether or not one is looking at the Blu-ray-only or overall package media charts. Regarding just Blu-rays, a new release,
The Expendables 2, took the number two position; Lionsgate's popular action extravaganza sold 58% as many Blu-rays as
Brave and had a 52% HD market share. Just below it at third place was another Top Three mainstay, Sony Pictures'
The Amazing Spider-Man, which sold 44% as many Blu-rays as the Pixar feature and had an HD market share of 69%.
In terms of the overall package media rankings, however,
Dr. Seuss' The Lorax came in at second place, moving 34% as many total units as
Brave and having a 13% HD market share.
The Hunger Games followed that feature, and it also sold 34% as many units as
Brave; in addition,
The Hunger Games' HD market share was 33%.
