In today's installment of the "Lionsgate Limited Guessing Game" potential consumers may have been playing trying to keep track of the somewhat bafflingly different approaches to releases the new(ish) boutique e-tailer has been offering, we have You're Next. This entry (per all of the previous Lionsgate Limited releases) was previously granted a wide release on 1080 disc, with the original Blu-ray coming out in 2014. In this particular instance, however, the film also received a (1080) SteelBook release not even a year ago (as this review is being written) as a WalMart exclusive. This new edition from Lionsgate Limited offers a different SteelBook, and of course, per Lionsgate Limited's somewhat variant "tradition", it also offers the 4K UHD debut of the film. To answer one of the repeated questions I've gotten over the course of many Lionsgate 4K UHD reviews of previous 1080 releases, yes, the 1080 disc in this package appears to be a "legacy" disc, the same as the one reviewed below. Notably, the 4K UHD disc in this package offers a new Dolby Atmos mix, and some appealing new (or at least previously unreleased) supplements.

Note: Screenshots are sourced from the 1080 disc in this package.
You're Next is presented in 4K UHD courtesy of Lionsgate Films with an HEVC / H.265 encoded 2160p transfer in 2.40:1. I've been on record
repeatedly as stating that for whatever reason I just tend to prefer captures by Red cameras over Arri Alexa cameras, though this may be at least
somewhat of an outlier, in that the intentional decision to keep so much of the story (especially the last half to a third) swathed in sometimes near total
darkness, as well as a tendency to offer desaturated moments in more brightly lit outdoor scenes, may detract from some of the positives I typically like
in Red captures. This had a 2K DI, and so upticks in fine detail can be subtle, but they're still noticeable, as in some of the near hallucinatory close-ups
of faces at various points, where you can virtually count wrinkles and/or fine hairs. Dolby Vision / HDR probably aids the most in providing at least a bit
more shadow definition in the many dark scenes, though perhaps not by as much as might be hoped. Kind of interestingly, at least to my eyes, the
HDR grade actually cooled down some of the outdoor material, making it seem even more desolate and wintry.

I heartily enjoyed the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track on Lionsgate's original 1080 release, but commendably this 4K UHD version offers a nicely rendered Dolby Atmos track in its place. Kind of ironically, it may be in the low end that this new mix actually keeps drawing attention to itself, as some of the sinister low frequency washes may be even more anxiety provoking now with the added verticality the Atmos speakers offer. Those speakers can be engaged intermittently though noticeably as in the opening vignette with the song on repeat, or kind of comically (if horrifyingly) later, when certain projectiles start erupting through windows. Side and rear engagement is as impressive as in the older "standard" surround mix. Dialogue is rendered cleanly and clearly throughout. Optional English and Spanish subtitles are available.

More information on the legacy supplements can be found in my original 1080 review, linked to above.

Lionsgate Limited still seems to be finding its way, but the good news with this particular release is that the 4K UHD disc offers both a great sounding Dolby Atmos track along with a rather hearty supply of newly released supplements. The SteelBook packaging should easily appeal to collectors of that format. Recommended.
