Must-see television: a family sitcom with plenty of heart.

Young Sheldon is one of the best family sitcoms airing on television. A must-see series for the entire family to enjoy, Young Sheldon is a spin-off of the hit television series, The Big Bang Theory. With voice-over narration by Jim Parsons (as the voice of Sheldon Cooper), Young Sheldon comes from creators and executive producers Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) continues to study science while exploring the “geek” inside of him. With the help of his loving parents, Mary (Zoe Perry) and George (Lance Barber) Cooper, Sheldon explores college studies – many years in advance of his fellow peers. Meanwhile, brother Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) and sister Missy Cooper (Raegan Revord) have some fun of their own. Everyone in the Cooper family has a fun journey to go on.

As the story-lines in Season 3 unfolds, Connie 'Meemaw' Tucker (Annie Potts) is faced with a potential reunion with Dr. John Sturgis (Wallace Shawn), who has recently returned from a mental institution. Yet the romance might hit a stand-still when Dr. Sturgis decides to call things off – and Coach Dale Ballard (Craig T. Nelson) enters the romantic equation. Who will Connie end up with?

Meanwhile, Georgie explores door-to-door sales while Missy joins the baseball team. Pastor Jeff (Matt Hobby) begins a new relationship, too: getting married in a heart-beat. As the season unfolds, Sheldon finds that life is full of surprises. College, family, and friends, are all a part of the day-to-day life. An adventure of science, geekdom, and the joys of family, Young Sheldon is a must-see television hit.

The cast remains one of the best elements of Young Sheldon. As the younger Sheldon, Iain Armitage continues to get better and better in the lead role. Armitage adds whimsy and charm to the part (and remains true to the performance by Jim Parsons on The Big Bang Theory). The supporting actors on Young Sheldon are terrific, too: Annie Potts is particularly great in her supporting role (as one of the MVP's of the entire series). Wallace Shawn is a constant delight as Dr. Sturgis. Zoe Perry gives great motherly love as Sheldon's mom while Lance Barber does an excellent job as the father. The cast of Young Sheldon provides the series with ample warmth and energy.

"College, anyone?"

The production is well-mounted on many levels. The production design by Joseph P. Lucky (Saved by the Bell, American Princess) adds a sense of style to the series which is quite effective. The efforts in production design help the series retain an impressive Texas atmosphere and style. The art direction crafted by Colin D. Irwin (Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight, House of Frankenstein) is also top notch and gives the series some nice stylistic flourishes.

One of the most impressive elements of Young Sheldon: Season 3 is the cinematography by Buzz Feitshans IV (Community, Chuck). Young Sheldon is a well-polished series which has great cinematography on display throughout the season. The entire production is bright, sunny, and enjoyable to watch. An excellent effort by Buzz Feitshans IV.

The costumes by Linda M. Bass (To Live and Die in L.A., Crash) imbue the series with a sense of style that is true to Texas and the time-period. The costumes seem fitting for each of the characters and the efforts are truly commendable. Bass delivers great costumes for each leading performer and there is something spectacular about these efforts.

The music score by Jeff Cardoni (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Silicon Valley) provides the series with a sense of whimsy and charm that is reminiscent of classic 80s and early 90s family productions. The score is thoroughly delightful and never seems out of place. A quality score.

Created by Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Dharma & Greg) and Steven Molaro (The Big Bang Theory, The Class), Young Sheldon is well-written and season three is one of the best seasons yet. Featuring direction by Jaffar Mahmood (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Alex Reid (Malcolm in the Middle, Up All Night), Young Sheldon is undeniably compelling as family entertainment. The stories are engaging and heartwarming. The comedy is dynamic and heartfelt. The series continues to find a great footing – both as its own television series (and as a spin-off to The Big Bang Theory). Must-see TV.

Arriving on Blu-ray from Warner Bros., Young Sheldon: Season 3 is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The set includes two discs containing the entire season. The video quality on the release is exceptional. The presentation has impressive color reproduction, detail, and depth. The encoding is impressive, too. There are no anomalies with regards to compression. A solid effort by Warner Bros.

The Blu-ray release is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. The audio quality on the release is strong and satisfying. The audio sounds terrific throughout. Dialogue is crisp, clear, and easy to understand. A dialogue-heavy series, Young Sheldon still has some occasional sound effects that are interesting and well implemented. These effects are certainly well integrated in to the sound mixing. The music clarity is strong as well. An impressive encoding on the whole.

Young Sheldon is one of the best series on television. A great family series, Young Sheldon manages to work independently of The Big Bang Theory (while still offering established fans of the former series plenty of nods to appreciate). Full of charm, heart, and wit, Young Sheldon is essential. The Blu-ray release from Warner Bros. features a strong video-audio presentation. Highly recommended.
