The year is 1878, Lincoln County. John Tunstall, a British ranchowner, hires six rebellious boys as "regulators" to protect his ranch against the ruthless Santa Fe Ring. When Tunstall is killed in an ambush, the Regulators, led by the wild-tempered Billy the Kid (Estevez), declare war on the Ring. As their vendetta turns into a bloody rampage, they are branded outlaws, becoming the objects of the largest manhunt in Western history.

Lionsgate is partnering with Best Buy for another of their exclusive SteelBook releases. The disc contents match those available in Lionsgate's wide release of Young Guns 4K.

On disc supplements are detailed in the above linked review. The SteelBook has appealing orange-sepia toned illustrations of the characters on the front and back covers. The inside panels offer a similar illustration of a barren western plain. The SteelBook also encloses some kind of cool plus sized "playing cards" with characters on them (see the sixth photo I've included).
Those with a jaded sense of humor and a political bent may recall that Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor and Kevin McCarthy purloined the "young guns" moniker to describe themselves as a "new breed" of Republican lawmakers back circa 2010 or so. It's perhaps more than a bit ironic that those three "desperados" met the same figurative fate as several of the characters in this film. As "real" history, Young Guns is probably just as laughable as thinking of members of Congress as some kind of superhero, but the film has its own quirky energy and the casting is interesting, not necessarily limited to the more youthful members. This new 4K UHD release offers noticeably improved video and audio on both its 1080 and 2160 discs, and this SteelBook edition offers handsome packaging and some frankly kind of cool "playing cards". Recommended.
