In English, with optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature. Region-Free.

Criterion's release of You Can Count on Me is a 4K Blu-ray/Blu-ray combo pack. The 4K Blu-ray is Region-Free. However, the Blu-ray is Region-A "locked".
Please note that some of the screencaptures included with this article are taken from the 4K Blu-ray and downscaled to 1080p. Therefore, they do not accurately reflect the quality of the 4K content on the 4K Blu-ray disc, including the actual color values of this content.
Screencaptures #1-26 are taken from Blu-ray.
Screencaptures #31-40 are taken from the 4K Blu-ray.
The following text appears inside the booklet provided with this release:
"Supervised and approved by director Kenneth Lonergan, this new 4K restoration was created from a 35mm interpositive, and a 35mm archival print was used as color reference. The original 5.1 surround soundtrack was remastered from 1/2-inch magnetic printmaster.
Mastering supervisor: Lee Kline, Giles Sherwood.
Colorist: Michel Hassidim/Ressilion, New York.
Image restoration: Resilion.
Audio restoration: The Criterion Collection."
In native 4K, the 4K restoration can be viewed with Dolby Vision and HDR grades. I chose to view it with Dolby Vision and later did comparisons with its 1080p presentation on the Blu-ray.
The entire film looks very healthy, and while some areas of it are intentionally made to look a tad subdued, primarily because natural shadows become prominent, a lot of primaries and supporting nuances are quite vibrant. Delineation, clarity, and depth vary. I would describe them as very good, but some areas of the film can be a tad soft. These fluctuations are easier to spot on a very large screen. Color balance is fine, though in a couple of areas, the turquoise feels a bit too strong. Regardless, the entire film has an appearance that was very common during the early 2000s. Image stability is outstanding. The entire film looks spotless as well.
I cannot say that there is a dramatic difference in quality between the native 4K and 1080p presentations. Because of how the film is shot, the softness mentioned above is retained in both presentations and remains easy to recognize. The daylight outdoor footage looks very good in 1080p as well. The Dolby Vision grade manages darker areas convincingly, so you should not worry about encountering crushing. The overall dynamic range of the native 4K and 1080p visuals is extremely similar, too.

There is only one standard audio track on this release: English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided for the main feature.
You Can Count on Me does not have an active soundtrack, creating a lot of interesting dynamic contrasts. Lesley Barber's music has only a supportive role, too. All exchanges are very clear, sharp, and easy to follow. I did not encounter any anomalies to report in our review.

4K BLU-RAY DISC

People like the main characters in You Can Count on Me are destined to spend the majority of their lives miserable because they constantly invent good reasons to blame something or someone else for what they have become. Twenty-five years later, social media has dramatically expanded their arsenal of good reasons, age brackets, and multiplied them, too. Their stories and the drama in them are very predictable because, eventually, both reveal that they are simply not rational and disciplined adults. Criterion's combo pack introduces a good new 4K makeover of You Can Count on Me, supervised and approved by Kenneth Lonergan.
