Ya Boy Kongming! Road to Summer Sonia is an exciting music-adventure with comedy elements. Created by Ryō Ogawa and Yuto Yotsuba, Ya Boy Kongming! Road to Summer Sonia features superb animation from acclaimed production studio P.A. Works (Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, The Eccentric Family). Ya Boy Kongming! Road to Summer Sonia features theme song performances by 96Neko and Lezel – with singing performances by 96Neko as Eiko Tsukimi and Lezel as Nanami Kuon. Featuring voice performances by Kaede Hondo and Ryōtarō Okiayu.

Eiko Tsukimi (Kaede Hondo) is an up-and-coming pop idol. Eiko has a glorious voice and a determination to make her dreams come true. The journey of Eiko is one of ambition – with her love of music being a driving force in her goal to be a true pop star. Along the way to the top of the charts, Eiko is joined by music manager Shokatsu Kōmei (Ryōtarō Okiayu). Shokatsu – a reincarnation of an esteemed military strategist – is doing whatever it takes to make the pop star dreams of Eiko a reality. Yet there are still numerous obstacles along the way (such as dealing with the recording industry itself and all of its big perils).

The characters make a huge impact on the storytelling. Eiko is a fantastic lead character and a protagonist that is easy to love. The ambitious nature of Eiko is one that is heartwarming and inspirational. The character is determined to fulfill her dreams. The supporting cast of characters includes Nanami Kuon (Hibiku Yamamura), Owner Kobayashi (Jun Fukushima), and Kabe Taijin (Shōya Chiba). The supporting cast of characters help to expand the narrative, too. The characters play small but meaningful roles in the feature. Shokatsu Kōmei is another compelling character as the determined music manager – who wants to help make sure Eiko is successful on her road to pop stardom.

The character designs by Kanami Sekiguchi (Hanasaku Iroha - Blossoms for Tomorrow, Tari Tari) are impressive and add so much to the production. The designs by Sekiguchi are top-notch throughout. Outstanding design work and each character has a fantastic aesthetic. The aesthetic quality adds enormous wonder to the anime feature.

The animation is one of the most compelling aspects of the production. The animation style is beautiful and the compelling visuals add to the filmmaking. Ya Boy Kongming! Road to Summer Sonia features excellent art direction by Junichi Higashi (City Hunter, Excel Saga). The animation team did fantastic work with the series. The background animation and line artwork look terrific. The animation has outstanding merit throughout the feature-film. The colorful and vibrant art of the city landscapes creates something special and helps to enhance the pop stardom storytelling.

The cinematography by Yoshimitsu Tomita (The Colors Within, IRODUKU: The World in Colors) is one of the highlights of the production. The cinematography is vibrant throughout the feature-film. The cinematography looks robust and helps to showcase the beautiful work of the animators.
