WorldEnd: What Are You Doing at the End of the World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us? is an action-packed anime series with a science-fiction genre element. Created by Akira Kareno, WorldEnd has an impressive aesthetic rooted in the original character designs by ue. The animation production by C2C (Reincarnated as a Sword, Harukana Receive) and Satelight (Bodacious Space Pirates, Girly Air Force) expands the horizon of the series. Produced by Atsushi Itou (Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory, Nichijou - My Ordinary Life), WorldEnd features theme music performed by Azusa Tadokoro (OP) and True (ED). A science-fiction anime for fans of action-adventure series. Featuring the voice talent of Ryohei Arai and Azusa Tadokoro.
The entire world was brought to the edge of extinction. The world will never be the same – due to the epic battles in which humanity fought against seventeen dangerous beasts. The battles resulted in the near extinction of human beings and the rest is history. Only a few survive and fight for the future of tomorrow. Willem Kmetsch (Ryohei Arai) is the hero of the tale and he perseveres and fights for the future of all.
Willem is the Black Agate Swordsman and with his giant sword he wields a mighty and fierce blade of justice. Chtholly-Nota-Seniorious (Azusa Tadokoro) is a Leprechaun – a fairy princess whom has the power of a mighty warrior and she also wields an epic blade of might. The battle is set and the epic stakes won’t stop these heroes from taking on the villainous beasts. Can the human race survive for tomorrow?
The character designs by Tōru Imanishi (Girly Air Force, Skeleton Knight in Another World) are an impressive aspect of the production. The designs add to the production and the science-fiction component of the filmmaking. Imanishi certainly did a compelling job with the characters.

The animation is impressive and fluid. The art style is compelling. Under the chief art direction of Mio Isshiki (Hunter × Hunter, Saiyuki Reload), WorldEnd is a nicely animated series. The chief animation direction by Kōsuke Yoshida (Fairy Tail, Time Bokan: The Villains Strike Back), Tōru Imanishi (Girly Air Force, Skeleton Knight in Another World), and Yumi Shimojō (Josee, The Tiger and the Fish, Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple) adds a nice touch of artistry to the production. The cinematography by Jun Kubota (Aquarion Logos, Last Hope) highlights the animation nicely as well.
The score composed by Tatsuya Katō (Celestial Method, Trigun Stampede) is one of the best highlights of the production. The music is adventurous and fun. The score provides a solid backdrop for the action on the series.
Written by Akira Kareno, WorldEnd is a series aimed at action-fans first and foremost. Even with the science-fiction backdrop, the action-anime crowd will be the most impressed. Kareno does a solid job with the genre elements and with the characters. A fun concept for the series.
Directed by Junichi Wada (The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, Ragnastrike Angels), WorldEnd isn’t perfect by any means but it has some fun action-adventure for fans. The directing is solid and there are some good action beats to keep audiences entertained. WorldEnd is a compelling science-fiction anime for genre fans.

Released on Blu-ray from Funimation (now Crunchyroll), WorldEnd: What Are You Doing at the End of the World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us? is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The series has a bright and colorful presentation. The line art looks excellent on the release. Detail is wonderful and crisp. The animation is well reproduced with excellent encoding.

The release includes a selection of lossless audio tracks: English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound and Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0 (with English subtitles). The lossless audio encoding sounds crisp on the release. Dialogue is clear and easy to understand. The encoding is solid with good clarity for the score. The sound direction by Satoshi Motoyama (How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord, Girly Air Force) is well reproduced.
