Wild Deep Blu-ray Movie Review
Deeply informative and wildly entertaining.
Reviewed by Martin Liebman August 18, 2013Wild Deep takes audiences on a journey into the most amazing hotspots under the world's oceans for a look at the diverse life that populates Earth's waters. Unique creatures, exotic life, strange facts, and countless examples of nature's beauty are highlighted in several twenty-minute high definition spectacles that will amaze and inform audiences of all ages.

For what amount to rather short programs, Wild Deep packs in a healthy amount of information. Aside from overviews of the various geographical regions, the short films analyze, albeit rather briefly, a variety of plant life and creatures with some detail beyond the most basic facts. Topics include habitats, feeding patterns, defensive measures, and even how some species attract mates. It also studies the bio-history of the regions, the benefits to mankind, and other fascinating facts and statistics. Most important, however, is that Wild Deep is simply a pleasure to watch as it brings some of the most amazing creatures on Earth straight into the home or the classroom in high quality high definition.
Below is a list of the individual episodes and their runtimes.
- The Coral Triangle (20:46).
- Oceania (20:17).
- Africa's Oceans (20:47).
- The Azores (20:47).
- Galapagos (20:46).
- Mexico's Mysterious Waters (19:31).
Wild Deep Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality

Wild Deep features an imperfect but steady and mostly delightful high definition picture. Colors are fairly bold and intense, while details prove a touch soft in places but hold up well considering the underwater environment. The image fares best above water where definition improves and clarity increases. Mostly, however, this transfer is all about that gorgeous palette of oranges, greens, reds, and yellows against the watery blue backdrops. It's a fun watch.
Wild Deep Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality

Wild Deep is just too loud. The soundtrack booms at reference level, so keep things cranked down, considerably. Once a comfortable volume is achieved, the narration finds more balance and clarity. Musical support isn't front-and-center much of the time, but it does enjoy adequate spacing and sonic definition.
Wild Deep Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

The only "bonus content" is an extended episode that examines what lies underneath the waters surrounding Antarctica (43:55). This segment also features a new narrator. Otherwise, no extras are included. A DVD copy is included in the box.
Wild Deep Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Wild Deep is a wild success of easily digestible but informative information on the wonders and beauty of underwater life. It's excellent for families, classrooms, or anyone interested in what exists below the water's surface and exploring life and the world in which it lives, a world that most will never see beyond the television screen. Millennium's Blu-ray release of Wild Deep features high quality video and booming audio. One extra double-length segment is included. Highly recommended for families and classrooms.
