Competing the story begun in 2024's 'Wicked'
, the 'Wicked: For Good: Walmart Exclusive SteelBook 4K' earrives on 4K UHD disc courtesy of Universal. Starring Cynthia Erivo as
Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, and backed by Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible) and Jeff Goldblum (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz), the brilliant
cast returns to take viewers on the final portion of this toe-tappingly tragic, triumphant, humorous, and heartfelt journey. Based on the book by
Gregory Maguire and the smash Broadway musical, the film grossed over half-a-billion dollars upon its original theatrical release. Boasting
reference-quality technical specifications, the release also features a variety of on-disc supplemental material, such as a "Sing-Along" version,
deleted and extended scenes, and a feature commentary to name a few. A Blu-ray, and a Digital Code redeemable through Movies Anywhere are
also included. Please scroll down to the 'Special Features and Extras' section below for a discussion of the new SteelBook.

As is befitting such a colorful motion picture, the new Wicked: For Good: Walmart Exclusive SteelBook 4K's front and back covers are a
rainbow of pinks, purples, greens and yellows, along with varying shades of each. The wordless front cover finds Glinda (Ariana Grande) floating in
her bubble high above Oz. Ephaba, standing on top of her broom, floats very near to her, as the two woman tentatively reach out toward each other.
Pink and purplish clouds fill the sky behind Glinda, while green clouds are present behind Elphaba. Below them, in the distance, the Yellow Brick Road
winds its way to the Emerald City. The reverse finds a stylized golden "W" that is positioned in the center of swirling clouds. Dark green clouds are
gathering on the left, while deep purple clouds gather on the right. Universal's logo appears centered at the bottom, and a product number is found in
the lower right corner. The spine is a simple black field with the film's title centered and rendered in the same font that is associated with the film. The
Universal logo sits at the bottom. The SteelBook features a glossy finish that accentuates the bright colors used in the SteelBook's design. Even so,
fingerprints associated with careful handling are not readily visible. There are no embossed or debossed elements.
Opening the SteelBook, the tabs on the left secure the Digital Copy. On the right side, the 4K UHD disc and the Blu-ray disc, are stagger-stacked,
each on their own hub, with the 4K UHD disc on top. Removing all of these items exposes a two-panel image of the long and winding Yellow Brick
Road cutting a path through the country side to Elphaba's adopted home of Kiamo Ko. A flying monkey is seen in the sky returning to the structure.
The image employs a color palette consistent with the outer cover. The SteelBook's design encapsulates the film's main elements: there's the tenuous
but hopeful relationship between Elphaba and Glinda, it depicts the differing realms they each call home, and the back hints of the volatile nature of
the conflict between the two that's in store. From a design perspective, the new SteelBook has a look that is very complimentary to that of the first
film (Read about that one
here.)

One thing's for certain, the film has been changed from the source material. Whether or not it's for the better, or for good (or not), is going to be up to the viewer. Keep in mind this is a movie series based on a Broadway musical that was based on a book that relates to a classic film that was based on a thirteen-book series by L. Frank Baum that is now over 100 years old. For just as Gregory Maguire's novel made some modifications to Baum's tales, Chu, who usually stays true to the source material, makes the modifications he feels he must to make the story he wants to tell work for the big screen. And the story absolutely entertains as Glinda, Elphaba, and Fiyero take actions and make choices that lead them to their ultimate fates, be it wicked or good. Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum again turn in fantastic performances, and there's a wonderful cast around them, but this is absolutely Grande and Erivo's movie, and they carry it with ease. Enhanced by outstanding costumes, massive practical sets, top-notch effects, and enchanting musical numbers, the disc presents the film flawlessly. Those who acquired the SteelBook for the first film won't want to give this one a miss. It's gorgeous. Collectors coming to this one first will likely want to track the previous SteelBook to complete the set. Either way, the Wicked: For Good: Walmart Exclusive SteelBook 4K earns my highest recommendation.
