Wicked: 2-Film Collection Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Justin Dekker January 21, 2026

After successfully making the leap from page to stage, the beloved Broadway hit musical leapt to the silver screen. With the two-part story of Elphaba and Glinda now complete, the 'Wicked: 2-Film Collection' arrives on Blu-ray disc courtesy of Universal. Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, and supported by Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible) and Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the stellar cast takes viewers on an incredible journey filled with music, drama, triumph, and tragedy, and would go on to earn approximately $1.2 billion dollars at the box office world-wide. This two-disc set includes the Blu-ray discs found in the standalone wide releases. On-disc supplemental material includes "Sing-Along" versions of both films, deleted and extended scenes, and feature commentaries. An embossed slipcover, and a Digital Code redeemable through Movies Anywhere are also included.

Approximately five years in the making, the two-part saga is breathtaking from every angle. The vocal performances of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are impressive, to say the least, with the two women actively singing their parts on-set. The world-building on display in the two films is equally dazzling. While they were augmented or extended with CGI, the films lean heavily on massive practical sets, some reaching 55' in height, for the cast to wander through and inhabit. With the addition of various CGI animal characters and the inventive and often whimsical props, Oz is afforded a very tangible and very real presence and identity. While it could be quite dark, the first film injects a fair amount of joy and laughter into the mix. Smiles abound, hope for the future springs, and unlikely friendships and bonds are formed. But as the first installment closes and the second opens, the world has grown darker. Much of what was crafted in the first film is fractured or broken, as each of the characters must live with the consequences of the choices they made. But in the tradition of many American (or Americanized) fairy tales, a happy ending somehow has to be waiting at the end of the (Yellow Brick) Road.

Wicked: 2-Film Collection Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  5.0 of 5

The journey to bring Wicked to the screen was a long one, indeed, and the care and craftsmanship on display in every shot relentlessly impresses. The labyrinth practical sets are extensively explored, costumes are a wonderful mix of style and function, and vocally, the two leads are on- point. While the overall production values of the massive project and the concurrent shooting strategy lend an incredible continuity between the films, each has its own identity, with the situation in the second film growing rather dire before the final resolution. Grande and Erivo cannot be given enough credit for the work they did here, and the performances of Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and Jonathan Bailey are likewise integral to the film's success. Yeoh's Morrible is deliciously evil, Goldblum's Wizard hides his more casual tyranny under a showman's charm, and the conflicted Fiyero helps illuminate where audiences sympathies ought to lie. Clocking in at just under five hours, it's not as daunting an undertaking as powering through some other modern multi-part epics, but it's delightful that musical theater fans finally have such a property of their own, and watching the films consecutively will be on my weekend agenda very soon. Wildly entertaining and imminently rewatchable, the presentations boast excellent technical merits, and the Wicked: 2-Film Collection earns my highest recommendation.
