Marriage is a big dead end in terms of bedroom satisfaction in 1985’s “Wet Dreams,” with director Henri Pachard using relationship incompatibility to inspire a study of fantasy experienced by a handful of characters. There’s limited story here, with a basic introduction into a bad relationship soon transformed into a series of sexual encounters with heightened circumstances, tracking the growing confidence of a woman who can’t get much out of her husband, but can tour all sorts of sensual encounters just by dreaming it up.
The AVC encoded image (1.85:1 aspect ratio) presentation is listed as "newly scanned & restored in 2K" from a 35mm original negative. "Wet Dreams" is not an expansive production, mostly contained to a few rooms, but color is lively, with define primaries doing well with costuming choices and period decoration. Skin tones are ample and natural. Detail is excellent, providing a clear look at body particulars and hair, and clothing is fibrous, ranging from lacy lingerie to cocktail dresses. Interiors are reasonably dimensional, exploring living and social spaces. Delineation is satisfactory. Grain is fine and film-like. Source has several points of damage, and some judder is present.
The 2.0 DTS-HD MA mix offers a simple understanding of dialogue exchanges coming from a range of acting skill. Scoring favors a slightly funkier sound, and instrumentation is passable, and magical chimes are appreciable. Some mild damage is detected.
"Wet Dreams" is entertaining, and it gets pretty far on weirdness, with Pachard not even trying to create connective tissue at times, strictly here for the sexual possibilities of the premise, which climaxes with Jeannie and her time with a dishwasher repairman. Relationship issues are gradually erased from the endeavor, which shows more interest in ways to recycle sets and reuse performers, offering a low-budget odyssey into heated visions of erotic desires.
