This is a Metalpak, similar to SteelBook, release for Director Steven Spielberg's 2005 remake 'War of the Worlds.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the 2010 wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the Metalpak's look and feel.

This Metsalpak, cousin to the somewhat more ubiquitous SteelBook, is streamlined and attractive. The front and rear panels are of a typically glossy
and fingerprint attracting
presentation. The front prominently features an alien hand holding the world, ablaze, almost like a flaming trophy. The film's title appears in large
gray letters in the top third, along with Actor Tom Cruise's name and "A Steven Spielberg Film" in between. The rear panel depicts Cruise's Ray Ferrier
gazing upward towards a blindingly brilliant alien beam of light. At the bottom in unobtrusive white lettering is a paramount logo, legalese, and a model
number. It's the spine where things become interesting and the packaging differentiates itself from SteelBook. Rather than a typical SteelBook
construction there's a seam down the middle of the spine, essentially breaking it into two sections, one of which is about a third of the spine's width
and the other half about two-thirds. Two hinges appear towards the top and bottom. The smaller section is left blank and black, while the larger section
is also black but houses the film's title, center; a Paramount logo appears below the top hinge and a Blu-ray logo and model number appear above the
bottom hinge.
Inside are two tabs on the left that hold no digital code. The lone disc appears on its own tab on the right hand side. The inner print is a two panel
spread that
depicts several alien craft firing energy beams down onto a ship which appears on the right, her bow well above water at around a 45
degree angle.

War of the Worlds might be one of the more unheralded of Steven Spielberg's films, and it has earned a quality MetalPak release. It's but one disc, and it's been out for quite a while, but at time of writing Best Buy is selling it for $10. Not a bad deal at all. Highly recommended.
