V/H/S/99 Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Randy Miller III May 22, 2023
Released alongside the standard version, RLJ
Entertainment offers a Steelbook edition of the recent horror anthology film V/H/S/99 as an exclusive to Walmart, both in-store and online.
Other than the tempting addition of a bonus DVD copy of the film (which, in all honesty, probably looks the same), it's roughly identical to the
wide release -- even the cover design -- but should nonetheless appeal to die-hard franchise fans and packaging collectors alike.

For my thoughts on the main feature, please see my separate review of the
standard Blu-ray.

V/H/S/99 Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

Seen above and below, this two-disc set ships in a matte-finish Steelbook with a front cover virtually identical to the wide release (save for a few quotes
and other text). The back cover, which is covered up by a removable card, features a garish close-up from "Suicide Bid" but is kind of spoiled by
promotional text that describes something you've already bought and opened. Sigh. Inside is a two-panel image from "To Hell and Back", with
the Blu-ray and DVD placed in overlapping hubs on the right side. It's not the most stunning design in recent memory, nor is it a total loss.
The on-disc bonus features are identical to the standard Blu-ray.
V/H/S/99 Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Shudder's latest horror anthology V/H/S/99 keeps the ball rolling with another batch of low-res horror shorts. In my opinion it's a better entry
than the "comeback film" V/H/S/94...
and this bump in overall quality makes me a bit more excited for the franchise's next entry, V/H/S/85, which was secretly shot
back-to-back alongside this most recent film. In addition to the standard Blu-ray, this Walmart-exclusive Blu-ray/DVD Steelbook is available for packaging collectors. That said, the "YMMV"
nature of the main feature only makes this version worth a look for established fans.
