Us 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman June 19, 2019

Universal and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Director Jordan Peele's hit, and critically acclaimed, Horror film 'Us.' The two-disc set includes the same physical and digital content as found in the film's UHD wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of this review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Us 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  3.0 of 5

Us may be a film with a number of dramatic and thematic layers, but its Steelbook is a beautiful example of streamlined simplicity. The front cover is almost entirely black, flat and a little reflective but not glossy and not prone to pick up easy and excessive fingerprints. A pair of golden shears appears center, serving as the primary focal point. The image is debossed. The film's title appears right of the shears, a little below center, in gold script. The letters are not debossed. The rear side carries over the predominantly black coloring and features a golden splotchy image, almost like one of those ink blot tests that looks like two heads, facing opposite sides, the one on the right looking a little more worn around the eyes, probably representing the "Tethered" side of the coin. A gold colored Universal logo, legalese, and a model number appear at the bottom. The spine maintains the fancy flat black look. The film's title appears center in the same script and color as on the front. A Universal logo, also gold, appears at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features an image of the Wilson family -- Zora, Gabe, Adelaide, and Jason -- standing hand-in-hand in front of a silver backdrop. Below, on the SteelBook's bottom half, are mirror images of their "Tethered" versions, clad in red against a black background. Zora and Jason hold scissors in their free hands.

Us 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

Us is a great film that has received one of the more glamorous SteelBooks around. The flat black and gold colors nicely compliment the blackened simplicity, and the inner print conveys the movie's basic plot in one simple image. The A/V specs are very strong, too. Highly recommended.
