Up 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman March 2, 2020

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Pixar's emotionally fulfilling animated adventure film 'Up.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Cheerful blue skies and white, puffy clouds define much of Disney's Up SteelBook. The front and rear panels, both slick and glossy, depict serene blue skies, with the front cover placing clouds at the bottom where Carl's house, attached to a number of colorful (red, blue, yellow, green, pink, purple) balloons, floats amongst them. The film's title appears in debossed diagonal lettering throughout the balloons. "Disney Pixar" text appears above. The rear side is largely sky blue, too. In the middle, in front of a single cloud, is the grape soda bottle cap pin that Carl wears in the film. Copyright and model numbers appear in small white print bottom left and right, respectively. The spine is a contrasting light purple color. The film's title, in the same style as seen on the front, appears center, along with, again, Disney Pixar text. An UltraHD logo appears at the bottom.

Inside, the Digital copy code floats; there are no tabs to hold it down. One disc appears on the left in its own hub while the other two appear on the right in staggered-stacked formation; the top one must slide into a slot that is partially underneath the bottom disc hub. The inner print is a two panel spread features Russel far left and Carl far right against the South American backdrop; Dug is in the middle, shaking hands with Russell, and Kevin is peeking out from behind the boy extreme far left.

Up 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

Up's SteelBook is simple and attractive. It follows the familiar Disney design cues from the recent deluge of animated 4K releases, with colorful front and rear panels and a different colored spine. The rear image is a little bland, as has come to be expected, but the sum total is very handsome. Recommended.
