Underworld 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman January 10, 2022
Sony has released the 2003 Action/Horror franchise starter film 'Underworld' to the UHD format. Sony previously released the film to UHD in 2016; this appears to be virtually
identical in terms of video and audio presentations,
though there are reports of a few minor alterations, albeit nothing that will make a serious difference in the sum total experience. The UHD disc
features a new menu screen and adds a couple of extras not available on the previous UHD issue. Also included are two cuts of the film, one of which
is new to UHD. Note that at
time of writing this disc is only available as part of the five-film 'Underworld' UHD collection boxed set.

Underworld 4K Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality

The included screenshots are sourced from a 1080p Blu-ray disc.
As noted above, the UHD disc appears to be virtually identical to the 2016 issue. However, note that there are reports of very minor color corrections in
a
couple of shots. That said, the review of the 2016 disc still suffices. Please click here for a full UHD video review.
Underworld 4K Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality

The included Dolby Atmos soundtrack appears to be identical to that accompanying the 2016 disc. Please click here for a full UHD audio review.
Underworld 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

For this UHD release of Underworld, Sony has redesigned the menu screen and eliminated the "Moments" extras and added new ones. Also
note that the UHD disc includes two cuts of the film: Theatrical Version (2:01:12) and Extended Version (2:13:36). For the previous release, the
Extended Cut was only available on Blu-ray, marking the
biggest reason to upgrade to this disc. The
bundled Blu-ray is identical to the 2007 release. For convenience, below is a list of what's included on that disc;
please click here for full coverage. As it ships in the five-film
Underworld
collection, a Movies Anywhere digital copy voucher and a non-embossed slipcover are included.
UHD:
- Alternate Flashbacks (2160p/HDR, 2:37 total runtime): Included are Sonja, Lucian in Chains, The Whip, Sunlight, and The
Pendant.
- Trailers (1080p): Included are Teaser Trailer (1:37) and Theatrical Trailer (2:30).

Underworld 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Sony's new UHD release of Underworld is more or less a match for the 2016 issue with the big change being the add of the Unrated cut on the
UHD format, earning this a recommendation above the standalone release.
