Mill Creek keeps the Ultraman Blu-ray fountain flowing with Ultra Galaxy Fight Series 1 - 3 + Ultraman Regulos/First Mission, a super mega combo variety pack sort of release that crams in all of the following: Ultra Galaxy Fight: New Generation Heroes, Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy, and Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Destined Crossroad. Additionally, the set also contains a pair of Ultra Galaxy Fight spinoffs: Ultraman Regulos and Ultraman Regulos: First Mission So, needless to say, there's a lot of content here. No extras are included, but still...Mill Creek hasn't skimmed on this release. It's three discs, with every second of content featuring solid video and audio presentations, and the result is a whole lot of fun in the modern Ultraman style.

Ultraman Galaxy Fight first premiered on September 29, 2019. It's deeply interconnected with the larger Ultraman universe, sandwiched in and around Ultraman R/B: The Movie, to which this series serves as a sequel of sorts, while it's also a lead-in to Ultraman Taiga. Needless to say, the three miniseries, and the two spinoffs, are saturated in franchise lore. They work well enough as standalone entries, but I think most viewers will get the most out of them coming in with a really deep understanding of the larger world of the Ultraman universe. Yet ,needless to say, the content in this set is also fairly representative of the basic ebb and flow of the larger franchise in its modern form, so just jumping in will give audiences a good go at the basics. Still, best to start somewhere else.

Ultra Galaxy Fight pits Ultra-Dark Killer, a supreme bad guy with the ability to copy Ultra heroes for nefarious purposes, known as "The League of Darkness," against a collection of new heroes, aptly called "The New Generation Heroes," which include Victory, X, Ginga, Orb, Geed, Rosso, Ribut, and Blu (how many of you can really say "no" to a series with a character called "Blu?"). The tales evolve, the rosters expand, and the action gets more intense as the series progresses, making for one of the most sprawling and legitimately jam-packed Ultraman collections yet. This is what the modern series does best: it throws all sorts of characters -- heroes and villains alike -- onto the screen, creating an all encompassing smorgasbord of all things Ultraman, and it still works. Sure, the formula is present and accounted for, and it's really wash-rinse-repeat, but at this point, it's cleary working and it's hard at work in this collection.

The series is really aimed at expanding the Ultraman brand. Case in point: it aired on YouTube to reach a wider audience, with English dubs, and each "minisode" ran around five or so minutes each. Here, they are seamlessly edited together for flow and watchability, but for the real sticklers for original intent, well, they're still available on YouTube in all of their short-bust glory. But being built on a series of condensed episodes means plenty is packed into each one, and here with them all strung together, there's not a moment to slow down. This is wall to wall action that builds story, but it builds story quickly, with the content advancing at breakneck speed. Be ready to keep up, but also be ready to have fun!

As usual, the 1080p transfer from Mill Creek is rock solid. The new, digitally shot Ultra series constantly looks great on Blu-ray, and this is no exception. The picture is smooth and crisp, highly detailed, and abundantly colorful. The clarity brings about every detail on costumes and environments with striking precision, showing off all of the material details and density with ease. The image is clear enough to betray some of the digital inserts, but fans will find the core elements to be tack sharp and visually robust from beginning to end. Colors are expressive and bold, with plenty of high yield dazzle and delight on various costumes and special effects alike. Colors are well saturated and neutral, with no real push to cool or hot. Black levels are impressively deep an white balance is fine. I didn't notice any significantly obtrusive noise, banding, or other source or encode faults to report. This is a fine transfer from Mill Creek.

Mill Creek releases Ultra Galaxy Fight Series 1 - 3 + Ultraman Regulos/First Mission to Blu-ray with both native Japanese and English dub DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 lossless soundtracks. The presentations are solid and don't stand out to me as radically different from one another. Both are clear, refined, and spacious along the front. Sure, the lack of surround channels and the absence of a dedicated subwoofer channel means less of an impact during the many, and prodigious, action scenes, but the net result is just fine, with plenty of front side spacing and good balance at work. The track is not without heft, but one can only imagine what the added ".1" channel would have done for the material. Likewise, a bigger (never mind just "present") sound barrage in the rear would have bolstered the overall sonic impact, but for a lower budget show created for YouTube one cannot complain too much, especially with the precision of what's here. Music and action effects are clear and spacious, while dialogue is likewise crisp and rich in both languages while imaging seamlessly to the center. English subtitles are also included for those who choose to watch in the original Japanese language option.

Ultra Galaxy Fight Series 1 - 3 + Ultraman Regulos/First Mission Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

While this three-disc Blu-ray release of Ultra Galaxy Fight Series 1 - 3 + Ultraman Regulos/First Mission contains no on-disc supplemental features, there are several items here worth noting. First, this edition ships with a single (and sealed) trading card from the Ultraman Card Game which includes a QR code on the back to scan for more information. Also, as is the case with many Ultraman releases, a full color stapled booklet is included which contains blurbs about each of the series included in this set...but they mostly recycle the content blurbs from the back jacket. Finally, a non-embossed slipcover is also included with purchase. So, while there are no extras in the traditional sense, fans are getting a few extra goodies for the price of admission.

Ultra Galaxy Fight Series 1 - 3 + Ultraman Regulos/First Mission Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

While this is not really the ideal place to jump into the Ultraman universe, it's not the worst place to jump in. Here are a few reasons why: first, sprawl. There's a lot going on here. There are plenty of characters, plenty of action, and enough storytelling to work in the larger picture without overwhelming viewers with endless narrative strings, that being despite the mounds of interconnected lore, franchise feedback, fan service, and the like all at work. All of that is here, but it all takes a backseat to the raw action and spectacle. Second, the English dub. While most of Ultraman is on Blu-ray with Japanese-only audio (English subs are available), this is one of the rare(r) releases with an English dub for those who are averse to starting a series sight unseen in the native language. Third, it's just the modern day Ultraman embodied. Newcomers are going to find a very good representation of what the series is about here. It's not the deepest, it's not the most dramatic, it's not the most complex, but for sheer spectacle and snapshot illustration it's a really good model for the series. So, I think newcomers might find this a welcoming (though certainly not ideal, as noted above) place to get started, while hardcore fans will, of course, want to devour everything here in short order and understand it within the larger contexts. Mill Creek has customarily foregone any on-disc extras, but the video and audio presentations are both up to par. Recommended!
