Twisters Double Feature Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Justin Dekker October 24, 2024

Both of Hollywood's biggest tornado-focused films are packaged together in this 'Twisters Double Feature' released to coincide with the arrival of the new film on physical media courtesy of Universal. Including the original 'Twister (1996)' and the new 'Twisters (2024)' the package is sure to delight fans of big-budget disaster movies and fans of the films' stars Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell. Each film is given it's own Blu-ray disc and each film is housed on its own hub. A slipcover and a Digital Code redeemable through Movies Anywhere are also included.

Please note, that while the vast majority of Twister (1996)'s special features are carried forward to this release, the "Nature Tech: Tornadoes: History Channel Special (2003)" (Runtime: 45.18) which was present on the first release does not appear on this disc which also has a different image printed on it; plain black with the logo instead of the original release's reproduced cover art. Twisters Double Feature Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

The original film was relentlessly entertaining, offering then-cutting-edge effects with a tight story and an excellent cast in Hunt, Paxton, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The latest film, while a sequel, does not require much, if any, knowledge of the first film, and while the structure, plot, and characters share some striking similarities to the first film, with its improved visual effects, delightful cast, and eye-catching cinematography, the new film quite effectively stands on its own. Both are perfectly re-watchable big-budget disaster films. While the original loses a nice feature on this rerelease, Twisters (2024) offers some very interesting segments of its own including a great commentary track and an effects-focused featurette. Highly recommended.
