Turning Red 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman May 5, 2022

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the 2022 animated film 'Turning Red.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

This is a glossy-smooth SteelBook that features, yes, plenty of red. The front panel depicts a full-head close-up of Mei in panda form, looking a bit frightened and uncertain with a mildly playful undertone. Paws are against the cheeks and her "human" form name tag dangles around her neck. There is no text on the front. The rear panel features Mei, again a facial close-up, wearing a large grin. No text beyond some legalese in white at the bottom appears. The spine is red with the film's title in white, center. An UltraHD logo appears at the top.

Inside, the digital copy code floats; there are no tabs. The three discs, one UHD and two Blu-ray, are situated one of the left on its own hub and the others on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a colorful image depicting Mei in panda form racing through a city exterior with a few of her friends grabbing on for the ride.

Turning Red 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

It's Turning Red and it's...red pretty much everywhere. It's fun and cute and a very agreeably designed SteelBook that fans are going to enjoy. The movie is fair and the UHD looks very good. Recommended.
