Trinity Seven: Complete Collection Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard March 13, 2026

Trinity Seven is an action-comedy with a supernatural element. Created by Akinari Nao (art) and Kenji Saitō (story). The series features animation production by Seven Arcs Pictures.

Produced by Hiroyuki Tajima (Shirobako, Yona of the Dawn), Kōichi Sakamoto, Mika Shimizu  (Arata The Legend, Engaged to the Unidentified), Ryō Yasumura, Ryōsuke Naya (Akiba's Trip: The Animation, Haruka Nogizaka's Secret), Shūichi Takashino (Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky, Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!), Takeshi Ishigaki (Hamatora, Girls und Panzer), Tomokazu Iizumi (Mr. Osomatsu, Phantom of the Idol), Toru Awaji (Laid-Back Camp, Stars Align), Yoshikazu Beniya (B-Daman Fireblast, Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny), and Yusaku Noguchi. Trinity Seven features theme performances by Aya Suzaki (as TWINKle MAGIC), Aya Uchida (as Magus Two), Ayaka Suwa (as BibleArt), Ayane Sakura (as YuiLevi♡), Nao Tōyama (as TWINKle MAGIC), Rie Kugimiya (as BibleArt), Rie Murakawa (as YuiLevi♡), Ryōka Yuzuki (as Security Politti), Yōko Hikasa (as Security Politti), Yumi Hara (as Magus Two), and ZAQ (OP). Featuring the voices of Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Aya Uchida, Ayane Sakura, Nao Tōyama, Rie Murakawa, Ryōka Yuzuki, Yōko Hikasa, and Yumi Hara.

Arata Kasuga (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka) dreams of another world. Yet Arata gets more than he expected when his hometown gets completely destroyed. Now the cousin of Arata is missing as well. Now the expectation is to somehow deal with 7 gorgeous mages.

Rescued from the false world, Arata has to overcome the powers of the others and emerge victorious. Can he save his cousin? Now enrolled in Royal Biblia Academy, Arata is surrounded by these mages while attempting to become a demon lord himself.

Arata Kasuga is a compelling lead protagonist. The character carries the series forward. The supporting cast of characters includes Arin Kannazuki (Aya Uchida), Levi Kazama (Ayane Sakura), Lieselotte Sherlock (Nao Tōyama), Yui Kurata (Rie Murakawa), Akio Fudo (Ryōka Yuzuki), Mira Yamana (Yōko Hikasa), and Lilith Asami (Yumi Hara). The supporting cast is compelling as well. The characters make up a nice ensemble.

The character designs by Shinpei Tomooka (The Darwin Incident, Inukami!) are well done. The designs add a lot to the production. The character art is unique and distinct for each of the supporting cast of characters. The result is a more well-rounded production with character art that fits the bill.

The animation is impressively done. Trinity Seven features art direction by Kinichi Okubo (Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, Scarlet). Trinity Seven also features chief animation direction by Kana Hashidate (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation, Extreme Hearts), Kyōko Kotani (Accel World, Baccano!), Shinpei Tomooka (The Darwin Incident, Pompo: The Cinéphile), and Suzuna Okuyama (Sabikui Bisco). The animation works well for the production and the team of animators bring something special to the table. The animation team creates a compelling visual sensibility and style. The style is dark and mysterious and works well for the storyline.

The cinematography by Megumi Enomoto (Love Live! Superstar!!, Majestic Prince: Wings to the Future) is similarly compelling and does well to highlight the animation. The cinematography showcases the overcast, dark, and compelling visual aesthetic of the production. The cinematography taps into the darkness of the series visual style and brings that element forward. The result is something which is quite effective in terms of the cinematography.

The score composed by TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND (Witch Craft Works, Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn) is another compelling element of the series. The music works well for the production. The score builds on the genre elements and adds elements of mysterious intrigue to the table. The score creates an eerie sensibility and works well with the characters and setting. The score certainly is effective at establishing mood.

The series is written by Hiroyuki Yoshino (Black Butler, A Certain Scientific Railgun S). Trinity Seven is a decent and creative anime with good storytelling ideas. The concept is well done and something that anime fans will find intriguing. There is something special about the concept and the way it unfolds. Characterizations are well done, too. The character focused writing gives moments for each of the characters to shine.

Directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori (Angelic Layer, A Certain Magical Index), Trinity Seven is an engaging and fun anime with some compelling elements. The directing is solid and adds to the production nicely. An effective anime series with a creative voice. The series is darker than some other genre anime series. However, it works well for what it sets out to accomplish and fans of such genre fare will find it quite compelling visually.

Trinity Seven: Complete Collection Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  4.0 of 5

Released on Blu-ray by Sentai Filmworks, Trinity Seven is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The release has a strong presentation of the series. The high-definition visuals are crisp and well reproduced on the release. The background animation and line artwork are well defined and showcased. The character art is also well highlighted by the encoding. The series aesthetic is dark and compelling and the encode has capably showcased that aesthetic quality.

One of the neat things about Blu-ray disc is the superior video encoding compared to streaming video services. One thing about streaming is that the video is often more compressed and there are more artifacts or potential for visual disruptions compared to physical media. For enthusiasts who want the best possible presentation quality, there can be some subtle gains to be had with physical media and the Blu-ray disc format.

Trinity Seven: Complete Collection Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  4.0 of 5

The release is presented with a selection of lossless audio options: English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 and Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 (with English subtitles). The sound direction by Yasunori Ebina (A Certain Magical Index, Date A Live) is well preserved and reproduced. Dialogue is crisp, clear, and is easy to understand. The score and soundstage are well handled and integrated within the presentation. The audio sounds refined and dynamic at the same time.

One of the coolest aspects of physical media is the lossless audio encoding. Physical media and the Blu-ray disc format provides lossless audio. Streaming video services only provide lossy (non-lossless) audio encoding. For home theater enthusiasts and audiophiles alike, the physical media experience offers a distinct advantage over streaming services by providing the best audio experience possible. Fans will appreciate the gains from the encoding and notice the improved audio resolution. These gains are especially noticeable for those with high end sound systems and A/V receivers.

Trinity Seven: Complete Collection Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  0.5 of 5

Clean Opening Animation (HD, 1:32)

Clean Closing Animations (HD, 6:08)

Unfortunately, the release is close to barebones. The release could have benefited from a more robust supplemental package. The release could have used some audio commentaries, behind the scenes featurettes, making-of documentaries, cast/crew interviews, roundtable discussions, comic con panels, photo galleries, art galleries, and more. Alas, the near barebones release is hardly comprehensive in any way. In the age of streaming, sometimes a nice supplemental package makes the difference between a one-time stream or a purchase. A nicely rounded extras package could have gone a long way to adding extra incentive for collectors.

Trinity Seven: Complete Collection Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.0 of 5

Trinity Seven is a decent anime series with a compelling concept. The series has a fun cast of characters. The anime features solid production elements with nice animation and solid cinematography. The dark aesthetic works well for the anime series. Though far from being some sort of classic, the anime has a compelling style that fans will appreciate for its dark and gritty approach to storytelling.

The Blu-ray release features a solid high-definition transfer, lossless audio encoding, and a small selection of bonus features. Unfortunately, the extras are slim and could have been far more extensive overall. The release might still be worth picking up for fans looking to expand their physical media anime collection. Recommended.
