Released on Blu-ray by Warner Bros, Trap is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 widescreen. The release provides a quality high-definition video presentation. The release takes the 4K D.I. from the 35mm film source and downscales it to a standard 2K Blu-ray presentation. The transfer looks quite pleasing and robust overall with quality visuals, color reproduction, and fine detail.
Even so, the transfer is not quite as crisp or detailed as on the 4K UHD release – which provides a fully native 4K UHD presentation with a top-notch 4K UHD HDR presentation. For enthusiasts seeking a more pristine image and one that is close to lossless in image quality, the 4K disc is the superior disc option. For those currently unequipped with 4K UHD televisions, projectors, disc players, or associated gear – the Blu-ray option still provides a nicely filmic option and is something that also provides a nice presentation option (even if not quite as refined or detailed as the high- bitrate 4K disc).
The release provides the Dolby Atmos surround sound presentation. For more information on the Atmos audio presentation, please refer to the Atmos audio details on the 4K UHD Trap 4K review.
The Blu-ray release includes the same on-disc supplements as provided on the 4K UHD disc release. The supplemental package is brief but entertaining and includes some must-see deleted and alternate scenes. For more information about the supplements included with the standard Blu-ray disc, please refer to the information provided alongside the 4K UHD review.
Trap is an exquisite thriller and a superb showcase for the skills of filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan. Josh Hartnett delivers a fantastic performance in the leading role as "the Butcher" Cooper. The Blu-ray release offers a solid high-definition video presentation and lossless audio. The release comes with a small but appreciable selection of bonus features. Recommended.
