Rekindling magic from the beloved Toy Story universe, Toy Story 4 is another exciting, action-packed, and heartfelt ode to childhood wonders. Taking place following the turbulent events of Toy Story 3, the fourth entry in the franchise finds Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), and co. being joined by a new toy friend: the once-disposable Forky (Tony Hale), a creative invention of the toy's young playmate, Bonnie. As events unfold, it is a surprising odyssey which takes Woody into new territory as he searches for the long-lost Bo-Peep (Annie Potts). Adventure and danger looms in a exciting new entry in the beloved film-series that never truly grows old.
Tip the hat to a nice steelbook edition.

To infinity and beyond! Fans of the beloved Toy Story franchise will be thrilled with the immersive experience the 3D presentation provides audiences. Presented with a 1080p MPEG-4 MVC encoded high definition presentation in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.39:1 widescreen, Toy Story 4 is beautiful in 3D and a true demo-worthy disc to showcase to friends and family. The 3D depth is quite stunning to behold and makes the viewing experience more special than any other presentation version available. The colors practically leap off of the screen. There is no issue with subdued colors. There are also no issues with ghosting, crosstalk, and other similar 3D anomalies to report (as viewed on my own display). Toy Story 4 looks magnificent and no other presentation option will suffice in comparison: a must-own 3D Blu-ray release.
The audio on the 3D Blu-ray is fantastic. However, viewers need to take note of this important tidbit: the 3D Blu-ray disc inexplicably defaults on start-up to a DTS-HD High Resolution track. This is a strange decision on the part of Disney as the disc also includes a superior 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. Viewers should select it from the disc menu at start-up. (For those without a 7.1 surround sound setup, please know that there is no problem in selecting this option: the back two channels are merely down-mixed into a 5.1 surround sound track).
Once the surround-sound party gets started, the lossless sound mix is a total blast with exciting surround usage and the melodic music of Randy Newman making a great impression. Dialogue is consistently clear and the soundstage is crisp and engaging. Even despite Dolby Atmos being M.I.A. from the release (as it is only found on the 4K UHD disc available separately), fans will ultimately find this lossless mix to be a highly rewarding audio track that pleases on every level.
The last hurrah (...or is it?) in the Toy Story franchise received a beautiful Zavvi exclusive steelbook edition. The release showcases a memorable shot of Woody alongside Buzz Lightyear and Bo Peep. The memorable and instantly iconic image makes the steelbook design all the more impressive. An outstanding art selection. Though some steelbook collectors might bemoan the fact it doesn't match previous 4K steelbook editions of the Toy Story films, the release perfectly matches the designs of the original Zavvi exclusives for Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and Toy Story 3. The collection will look all the better together.
The supplemental features on the release are provided on the included standard Blu-ray disc. The 3D disc itself does not contain the same bonus features (but everything is included on the second-disc).
For more information on the supplemental features please refer to the review by my colleague Martin Liebman.
Expanding on the beloved Toy Story animated universe, Toy Story 4 is a wonderful sequel filled with exciting sequences during every turn in the story. The beloved characters make the journey worth taking again. Woody and Buzz re-ignite imagination in our hearts. The filmmaking is superb and the 3D is so impressive that the release becomes a must own 3D title: one that belongs on the top shelf of all 3D aficionados. Don't miss it.
The collectors edition steelbook of Toy Story 4 is a must-own for die-hard fans of the beloved animated film series. The artwork is instantly iconic and features Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Bo Peep. While the fourth film in the franchise might be the end of the series for now, the steelbook will live on in the hearts of fans forever.
