Top Gun: Maverick 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman November 15, 2022

Paramount has widely released a UHD SteelBook packaging variant for the 2022 film 'Top Gun: Maverick.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release, with the exception of, here, the added Blu-ray copy. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Top Gun: Maverick 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

This UHD SteelBook release of Top Gun: Maverick is glossy and will sow some handling fingerprints in the darker areas. The SteelBook's exterior emphasizes the sense of aerial spectacle that captures the film's exceptional camera work and unparalleled access and photography quite well. The front panel features Maverick in his jet's cockpit, on the panel's left side, looking out the port side of his canopy and down on the aircraft carrier he's passing by. The film's title, along with Cruise's name, appears in the familiar style top center. The rear panel depicts another front-mounted and rear-facing image, this time pointing directly back at Maverick. He's bottom center and the jet's leading lines form a triangle. Two other jets are flanking him. A bright, beautiful sky fills the panel's top half. The spine offers more of the sky color with the film's title center. Paramount and UHD+Blu-ray logos appear at the top and bottom, respectively.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a motorcycle-riding Maverick cruising leftward on the bottom left while a fighter jet screams by, heading in the same direction, at the top right. Behind him is a beautiful sunset setting.

Top Gun: Maverick 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.5 of 5

This is an attractive SteelBook with great imagery and perspectives. The film is fantastic, as is the UHD presentation. Top Gun: Maverick's UHD SteelBook earns my highest recommendation.
