The world isn’t always the easiest thing to save. Ichigo Momomiya (Yūki Tenma) and the girls have a hard time as part of Tokyo Mew Mew. Not only is Ichigo expected to be a superhero alongside her closest friends but she’s supposed to find time to do well as a student, too.
It’s never easy to be a superhero and find time for all the simple things in life. Tokyo Mew Mew is still battling the Chimera Anima – aliens determined to rule the galaxy! Humankind might not survive the wrath of Chimera Anima if the Tokyo Mew Mew can’t thwart their dastardly plans.
Meanwhile, the Tokyo Mew Mew girls face new challenges. Boyfriends, anyone? The apocalypse could be right around the corner. These girls won’t go out without a fight. The Blue Knight has also arrived. Things seem to only be getting started. Tokyo Mew Mew faces new foes and monsters while juggling their studies. Meow!

The series has a charming aesthetic reflected in the character designs. The character designs are by Satoshi Ishino (Captain Earth, Classroom Crisis). The designs certainly add to the kawaii cute factor. These elements make the series have a more vibrant and energetic quality that helps the series to impress.
Tokyo Mew Mew New: Season 2 features quality animation and the art style is one of the greatest strengths of the production. The animation is bold and colorful. The vibrancy of the animation is something that adds a lot to the series aesthetic.
Tokyo Mew Mew New: Season 2 features stellar art direction by Kaoru Chiba (Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga, The Morose Mononokean II). The chief animation direction is by Satoshi Ishino (Captain Earth, Godzilla Singular Point) and Toshimitsu Kobayashi (Demon King Daimao, I'm in Love with the Villainess). The animators did fantastic work with the production. The animation team brought something special together and the animators handled the background art and line art well. The aesthetic energy is something that certainly enhances the production.
The cinematography by Di Zhang (Record of Ragnarok, Plunderer) is a strength of the production, too. Zhang is a talented cinematographer and the effort here is one that does a good job of highlighting Tokyo Mew Mew New: Season 2 and its animation. The cinematography helps the colors to pop in spades. There is something commendable about the cinematographic efforts of Zhang in adding inventiveness to the vibrant aesthetic.
The score composed by Yasuharu Takanashi (Fairy Tail, Zombie Land Saga) is engaging and a fun part of the series. The music is a clear highlight with good original score compositions. Takanashi is one of the better composers in modern anime (with Fairy Tail having some of the best music in any anime series) so it’s nice to see more compositions by the composer and the music here certainly aids the series production.
Written by Yuka Yamada (Samurai Warriors, Lupin III: Elusiveness of the Fog), Tokyo Mew Mew New: Season 2 continues the series journey. Fans of the series will appreciate the continuation of the popular anime. The series has a fun cast of characters and the bubbly personalities continue to be a huge part of the charm. Yamada showcases the fun personalities as a big highlight of the series.
Directed by Takahiro Natori (Cannon Busters, La Corda d'Oro Blue Sky), Tokyo Mew Mew New: Season 2 certainly checks off boxes for action-adventure fans who enjoy kawaii “cute” anime series. Tokyo Mew Mew New: Season 2 delivers more of what audiences both want and have come to expect from the series. For anyone following the series, Tokyo Mew Mew New: Season 2 is sure to please with more adventure and director Natori amps up the fun for series fans.

Released on Blu-ray by Sentai Filmworks, Tokyo Mew Mew New: Season 2 is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The presentation is vibrant with colorful animation and a stunning aesthetic that is well displayed through the series art. The animators delivered something impressive here and the encode capably handles preserving detail in the image. The image quality is excellent and free from egregious issues such as banding.
One of the best things about the Blu-ray disc format is the superior presentation quality. Blu-ray provides video quality with superior bit-rates compared to streaming platforms. Streaming video services usually provide lower quality bit-rates compared to physical media options. For videophiles and home theater enthusiasts, the physical format offers a distinct advantage.

The release is presented in Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 (with English subtitles). The release has a crisp and engaging soundstage. The sound direction by Toshiki Kameyama (Anti-Magic Academy: The 35th Test Platoon, Dusk maiden of Amnesia) is well reproduced. The score is a highlight of the audio design and soundtrack. The crisp lossless audio enhances the presentation quality. It is nice to see a wonderful lossless option for the original Japanese language version. The English subtitles are well done and are free from egregious spelling errors. The release does not provide an English dubbed option. This may disappoint some English dub fans who may prefer to have watched the series with an English dub. However, purists who prefer the original language audio anyway won't find much to complain about.
One of the greatest advantages of Blu-ray to streaming services is the lossless audio encoding. Streaming video services only provide lossy (non- lossless) audio quality. For audiophiles and home theater aficionados with expensive gear, the physical media experience offers a more rewarding audio experience with crisper and more well-defined audio. Enthusiasts certainly make up a nice percentage of the market and this is one of the strengths of the format – the care and attention giving to high-fidelity audio.

Disc 2:
Petit Minis (HD, 31:09)
Birthday Minis (HD, 10:24)
Showcase Minis (HD, 6:39)
Clean Opening Animation (HD, 1:32)
Clean Closing Animations (HD, 2:57)
It is nice to see the assorted anime shorts included on the release. These shorts certainly add some extra value to the collection. Fans looking for some nice additional supplements will be pleased that Sentai added something worthwhile to the release. Though the set could have been even more well-rounded with the addition of some audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes, and other featurettes, the mini anime is an unexpected addition to the package and a much better offering than simply including standard clean opening/closing animations. Well done, Sentai.

Tokyo Mew Mew New: Season 2 continues the series adventure. Fans of cute kawaii anime series will find something to appreciate. The series has colorful and vibrant animation and the aesthetic is something that will appeal to a specific anime audience who adores the art style.
The series has an impressive high-definition video presentation and lossless audio encoding. The set also comes with additional short anime episodes entitled 'petit minis' and these add value to the package. Fans will certainly want to consider a pickup for their collection. Recommended.
