While 1983’s “The Young Like It Hot” is an adult film with certain amorous priorities, it’s also a workplace comedy of sorts, bringing viewers into a California telephone operator station that’s about replace its staff with a computerized system. While pleasures of the flesh are lovingly detailed, there’s actually a sense of tension and mischief to the Bob Chinn feature that gifts “The Young Like It Hot” some entertainment value beyond bedroom encounters. Or perhaps office encounters is more accurate description here.
The AVC encoded image (1.78:1 aspect ratio) presentation has the benefit of bright visuals. Colors are superb here, with bold primaries on office interiors and costuming, which highlight blazing reds and soothing blues. Skintones are spot-on, completely natural. Detail is outstanding, capturing flavorful close-ups for all sorts of graphic and casual encounters, delivering ideal facial responses and extended tours of various body parts. It's a filmic viewing experience with tasteful grain management, and delineation is crisp and clean. Vertical scratches are detected, but the source is in terrific shape.
The 1.0 DTS-HD MA sets the adult film mood with a modest but effective range of dialogue exchanges and sexual response, supplying a clear understanding of tone and performance ability. Intelligibility is never a problem. Soundtrack cuts also come through with purpose, supporting the mood as intended, adding some percussive depth. Hiss and pops are heard, but they're never intrusive.
"The Young Like It Hot" (which is a strange title for movie about phone operators) balances displays of skin with team-building adventures, finding a frothy tone and a dramatic objective that keeps the endeavor engaging, with a lighter spirit that helps to get past obvious limitations from the attractive but untested cast.
