The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Saturday, bloody Saturday.
Reviewed by Randy Miller III February 17, 2023
Released alongside the standard 4K edition, MPI/Dark Sky offers a 4K Steelbook variant of Tobe Hooper's 1974 horror classic The Texas Chain Saw
Massacre. Disc contents are the same on both versions and even the artwork is similar, with only minor cosmetic differences -- and a
bonus two-sided poster -- separating the two. Currently priced only $7 more than the standard version, it's a relatively low-risk upgrade if you're a
fan of this packaging style.

For a synopsis of
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, please read Martin Liebman's review of MPI's
2008 Ultimate Edition Blu-ray. This is a clear genre
benchmark that falls
slightly short of a full 5/5 rating, in my opinion, but it's downright
impossible not to acknowledge the film's
craftsmanship, effectiveness, and of course its lasting influence.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

This two-disc release ships in a semi-gloss Steelbook case that also shares vintage poster-themed cover artwork with the standard 4K edition under its
variant slipcover. The inside offers a two-panel spread of everyone's favorite family sharing dinner, with an exclusive two-sided poster folded on the
left side -- original poster art and the standard-edition slipcover design, naturally -- and both discs overlapping on the right. The back cover is
unceremoniously plain white, which won't matter much if you keep the J-card on like a proper obsessive-compulsive packaging collector.
Bonus features on both discs are identical to the standard 4K edition.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

MPI/Dark Sky's welcome new 4K edition of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is the latest (but possibly not greatest) home video release of Tobe Hooper's grisly horror
classic. Yet taken on its own terms, this is a decently well-rounded release that corrects two nagging problems with their 40th Anniversary Edition
Blu-ray -- iffy video compression and a botched mono track -- while adding HDR10/Dolby Vision and a couple of new bonus features to the
ever-growing pile. It's heartily Recommended for non-importing fans, whether you opt for the standard 4K or this Steelbook.
