'The Super Mario Bros. Movie 4k' returns in this Walmart-exclusive steelbook courtesy of Universal. This family-friendly animated feature from 2023 is based on the iconic characters Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Princess Peach from a host of classic Nintendo video games, with the film working in a great many nods to its side-scrolling and platforming roots. The Super Mario Bros. Movie 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

The cover of this steelbook showcases an image that gamers will know well - the power up mushroom. Appropriately enough, the obverse side features the same power up mushroom, this time from the back. It is not embossed nor does it feature any text beyond the standard logos and similar information found on the bottom of the back. The spine features the multi-colored film title in its traditional font on a black field. It's a very clean look and an elegant design that works well for this film and those familiar with the IP will instantly know what's inside. It should be noted, however, that glossy black backgrounds for steelbooks can be problematic as they typically mercilessly show every scratch, scuff, and fingerprint and this one is no exception. After the very minimal handling required to take a few pictures of this product, when held at a certain angle, fingerprints were visible everywhere. I wasn't surprised, but I was disappointed. Even after attacking them with a microfiber cloth, the fingerprints didn't completely disappear. Although I don't always sleeve steelbooks, again, based on the glossy black background, I would use one here to prevent even the most minor shelf-wear as any imperfection will immediately and eternally draw the eye. The inside of the case features a view of Princess Peach's castle on the left and Mushroom Kingdom on the right under the slightly offset stacked discs. It's an image that would make an excellent poster if it isn't one already.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

The power up mushroom on the cover is pretty difficult to resist. Just know that this steelbook isn't going to look pristine the very instant you remove the shrinkwrap. And if you start digging into the popcorn before you take out the movie, it's game over. Still, for fans of the games and the film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie 4K steelbook comes recommended.
