The Shining 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman October 17, 2025

Film Vault is back with its so-called "third wave" of releases, both culled from the Warner Brothers catalog, and both being offered in special edition formats with all of the swag associated with Film Vault's first wave in particular, as well as in standalone SteelBook editions, mirroring some of the label's later packaging regimens.

There are quite a few reviews to be found on the site for this film, but those interested can start with my The Shining 4K Blu-ray review of Film Vault's special edition release, which itself includes a link to Randy Miller III's The Shining 4K Blu-ray review of home studio Warner Brothers' release from 2019.

The Shining 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  3.0 of 5

My review of Film Vault's special edition lists the on disc supplements and provides a description of the SteelBook. I've uploaded several hi res photographs to this review of the SteelBook packaging so that those interested can take a look. Per The Film Vault's "tradition" with these standalone SteelBook releases, there's a "smaller scale" Mylar O-ring that more or less mimics the bigger one that surrounds the large special edition set.

The Shining 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.5 of 5

As I noted in my review of the special edition from Film Vault, the label may be cutting back at least a little in terms of some of the non disc swag included in the special editions, so for those not wanting a bigger box that basically only contains some "paper premiums" in addition to the SteelBook, this may be a more affordable option. For SteelBook collectors at least, Recommended.
