The Sergio Martino Collection Blu-ray Movie Review

Several of the supplements scattered throughout this three disc collection from Arrow Video suggest that Sergio Martino is an unfortunately underappreciated director, and that his gialli in particular may be ripe for reassessment. Arrow seems to be aiding and abetting in that thesis, as this is one of the few times I recall Arrow has aggregated three previous standalone releases into a "new" collection. All three of the films in this set have at times labyrinthine plots, nice locations, compelling performance and, yes, a bit of slashing and dashing now and again. For those who missed the original standalone releases on Blu-ray, this set should be a welcome release.

While this new release omits any booklets that were originally part of the limited edition standalone releases, for all intents and purposes, these discs are in essence exactly the same as those released some time ago. If Martino merited reexamination several years ago when Arrow first released these three films on standalone Blu-rays, this re-release may suggest, if only subliminally, that perhaps the need for a reassessment is continuing. All three films sport solid technical merits and enjoyable supplements. Recommended.
