In the character of Dr. Syn created by Russell Thorndike, Disney found a folk hero with echoes of Robin Hood and Zorro — a model member of the community with an alter ego, The Scarecrow. Robbing the greedy of England and dispensing money to the overtaxed citizens of his parish, Dr. Syn is someone worth rooting for. "Scarecrow! Scarecrow! The soldiers of the King feared his name!" And so began the hard-to-forget theme song to THE SCARECROW OF ROMNEY MARSH. Walt Disney's thrilling 3-part adventure was produced for his WONDERFUL WORLD OF COLOR weekly TV show and aired February 1964. Later recut into a feature film and renamed DR. SYN, ALIAS THE SCARECROW, it was released theatrically in the UK. Filled with action, drama and suspense, it follows the adventures of Dr. Christopher Syn — brave priest by day, righter of wrongs by night.
