The Quiet Ones Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Dr. Svet Atanasov October 16, 2025

Frederik Louis Hviid's "The Quiet Ones" (2024) arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Magnolia Home Entertainment. There are no supplemental features on the release. In Danish and English, with optional English and English SDH subtitles for the main feature. Region-A "locked".

You can't win big if you do not think big.

It was the biggest heist attempted in Denmark. It was successful, too. In 2008, in a suburb of Copenhagen, a massive team of criminals entered a local cash-processing company, emptied its vaults, and then disappeared with approximately 70 million Danish DKK. (Around 10 million USD). According to Danish authorities, all of the criminals who planned and participated in the heist were captured and in 2010 sentenced to a total of 100 years in prison.

However, this is only the official story that Danish authorities dispatched to local media and then presented to the public. The real, complete story about the biggst heist ever attempted in Denmark appears to be different, and it is not difficult to understand why.

There is a lot of information floating around the internet, some of which is channeled through Frederik Louis Hviid’s The Quiet Ones, pointing to a dramatically bigger operation than the one Danish authorities have described. For example, before the criminals hit the cash-processing company, several groups operated large garbage trucks that were then positioned in key spots across Copenhagen to create chaos and slow down the police response. More people dumped handmade road spikes on multiple highways. And more people set multiple cars on fire, again at key locations, to prevent the police from using secondary roads to reach the crime scene. It does not appear that many of these people who assisted the main team were ever captured. Why? Because Danish authorities identified and tried fifteen criminals, and they alone could not have successfully pulled off such a massive operation.

Then there is the loot. The criminals stole approximately 70 million Danish DKK, but only a fraction of the money was recovered. (Apparently, only 4 million Danish DKK). What happened to the rest of the money? The Danish authorities have another official story, but no one really knows for sure. A lot of the money left Denmark, and plenty of it was spent while the Danish authorities were investigating.

According to Steffen Baadsgaard Andersen, one of the masterminds behind the heist who collected his share and quickly relocated to Malaga, Spain, the entire operation was handled like a military project. Andersen and his partners gathered information for almost two years, studied it, and then put together a plan. They hired people from outside Denmark to assist them. Some of these people were in contact with other people who became involved with the final preparation efforts as well. This is why the official story that the Danish authorities have about the heist sounds incomplete – it describes an ambitious criminal job, not a military project like the one Andersen participated in.

The Quiet Ones does not aspire to discredit the official story about the heist. However, it is a very carefully put-together film that sends clear signals to the rational mind that the official story is not the complete story. Andersen, played by a terrific Gustav Dyekjær Giese, works closely with Middle Eastern immigrants, part of underground networks, and their dealings are never placed under the spotlight. For a good reason. There is a rabbit hole there that redirects the official story about the heist to an entirely different place.

The Quiet Ones Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  5.0 of 5

Presented in its original aspect ratio of 2.39:1, encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and granted a 1080p transfer, The Quiet Ones arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Magnolia Home Entertainment.

On my system, from start to finish, The Quiet Ones looked absolutely incredible. Admittedly, I was not surprised because it was completed last year, but at times the quality of its visuals was even better than that produced by 4K Blu-ray releases of other recent films. Delineation, clarity, and depth were outstanding. Density levels were superb, too. Color reproduction is predictably flawless, but I have to admit that without the contemporary stylization, I would have enjoyed the film even more. Image stability is fantastic. (Note: This is a Region-A "locked" Blu-ray release. Therefore, you must have a native Region-A or Region-Free player in order to access its content).

The Quiet Ones Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  5.0 of 5

There are two standard audio tracks on this Blu-ray release: Danish DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Optional English and English SDH subtitles are provided. An English descriptive audio track is included as well.

I viewed the entire film with the Danish DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, which features small portions of Swedish and English. It is an outstanding track. During the break-in and the getaway, there is a lot of first-class action material that sounds absolutely phenomenal. The exchanges are clear, but even when English is spoken, you will probably want to use the optional subtitles.

The Quiet Ones Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

Earlier this year, French label Coin de mire Cinéma introduced a new restoration of The Sewers of Paradise, which reconstructs The Great Drain Robbery, one of the most ambitious heists ever. The Quiet Ones reconstructs a similar, rather remarkably ambitious heist, which is now recognized as the biggest ever attempted in Denmark. I have read a lot about this heist and think that it is an even bigger and more complex job than the one the Danish authorities have described. The Quiet Ones, a pretty spectacular film, provides enough food for thought for the rational mind to conclude that it is so. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
