The Outlaws IS Coming Blu-ray Movie Review
Better the outlaws than the in-laws.
Reviewed by Martin Liebman May 2, 2015Note: 'The Outlaws IS Coming' is currently only available as part of volume two of Mill Creek's Three Stooges Collection.
A scheming Wyoming villain named Rance Roden (Don Lamond) hatches a plan to control the Old West by slaughtering all of the Buffalo, incite the
Native American population, and have them go at it with the US Cavalry, essentially thinning the herd of any two-legged obstacles that might stand in
his way. The buffalo population's decline is of concern across the country, and particularly in Massachusetts where a magazine editor named Kenneth
Cabot
(Adam West) and his three aids -- Moe (Moe Howard), Larry (Larry Fine), and Curly Joe (Joe DeRita) -- are sent cross-country to investigate. Their
arrival, of course, puts them at odds with Roden. But the Stooges, along with Cabot, help turn the tide back in favor of the natural order of things.

Grrr...
The Outlaws IS Coming plays with classic Western motifs and twists them around, Stooges style, with a barrage of simple but uproariously funny shenanigans that put a whole new, and welcome, spin on a classic American genre. The Stooges are in top form, taking full advantage of their environment, costumes, guns, and everything Old West that's at their disposal. The film also features a leading role from Adam West, who would go on to play Batman in the popular television show featuring the famed DC Comics character.
The Outlaws IS Coming Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality

The Outlaws IS Coming arrives on Blu-ray with a solid 1080p transfer. This one's a little rougher than most of the other Mill Creek Stooges releases, showing some heavier, but still relatively light, compression artifacts mingling with the grain. Still, grayscale and blacks impress and details rarely miss a beat. The Old West setting has plenty to share from dusty streets to heavy wooden accents. Faces and period clothing are well defined, too.
The Outlaws IS Coming Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality

The Outlaws IS Coming's Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack is representative of all of the Stooges releases from the April 2015 Mill Creek releases. Imaging places everything firmly in the middle. General dialogue is fine absent a few sharper moments. Sound effects lack beyond raw clarity and gunshots are disappointingly puny. Light Old West ambience is audible but, of course, not to any truly immersive extent.

The Outlaws IS Coming Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

The Outlaws IS Coming may best be known for the appearance of a pre-Batman Adam West in a leading role, but the film is, by itself, good, healthy, clean fun featuring The Three Stooges. And what better mix than America's favorite comedians and America's favorite genre? It's a winning formula that works well and should leave audiences happy with the results. Mill Creek's Blu-ray release of The Outlaws IS Coming features good video, acceptable audio, and no supplements. Recommended on the strength of the film.
