David Drayton and his young son Billy are among a large group of terrified townspeople trapped in a local grocery store by a strange, otherworldly mist. David is the first to realize that there are things lurking in the mist... deadly, horrifying things... creatures not of this world. Survival depends on everybody in the store pulling together... but is that possible, given human nature? As reason crumbles in the face of fear and panic, David begins to wonder what terrifies him more: the monsters in the mist — or the ones inside the store, the human kind, the people that until now had been his friends and neighbors?

SteelBook admirers might want to check their favorite weather app before heading to their local Best Buy, since that's where Lionsgate has once again partnered to provide an exclusive release in that collector packaging. All of the disc contents in this release duplicate those I covered in our The Mist 4K Blu-ray review of Lionsgate's wide release of the film in 4K.

Supplements on the 1080 discs are detailed in Marty's review, and the 4K discs in this set of course feature the commentary track, per Lionsgate's wide release. The SteelBook imagery is not especially innovative, but it's kind of fun, with the mylar O-ring offering, well, mist, which, when pulled off, reveals our intrepid heroes and heroines in the store, looking out toward an uncertain future. The predominant color is blue. Inside you get the "reverse shot", with the characters on the inside of the store looking out. As with Lionsgate's wide release, a digital copy is also included.
The Mist is absolutely unrelenting, and in my considered opinion it delivers one of the most unsettling gut punches in horror film history in its closing seconds. This nice new release from Lionsgate offers both Darabont's preferred black and white and the theatrical release color versions, and the 1080 discs provide all of the previously released supplemental content. Technical merits are generally solid, especially and outstanding new Atmos track, and the SteelBook packaging may up the ante for a certain dedicated class of collector. Highly recommended.
