The Karate Kid Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Sony has released the original three films in the 'Karate Kid' franchise -- 1984's original classic and both the 1986 and 1989 sequels, all starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. Of note is that this set does not include the full cinematic 'Karate Kid' canon, excluding both the 1994 film 'The Next Karate Kid,' starring Hillary Swank and Pat Morita, and the 2010 remake, starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. All three films have been upgraded with 2160p/Doby Vision video and Dolby Atmos audio. Note that this is the second UHD release for 'The Karate Kid;' Sony's 2019 disc featured plain HDR color grading and this new disc adds new deleted scenes. There are new extras, including an audio commentary, with 'Part II.' See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for a few more words on the packaging.

The Karate Kid Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

Sony ships all three films in a very sturdy slip box adorned with attractive artwork front and back, including artist renditions of Daniel and Mr. Miyagi on the front, along with a Bonsai tree and Daniel practicing his crane kick on the beach, and a character collage depicting key players from all three films on the rear. Each two-disc set ships in their own standard black UHD Amaray case with non-embossed slipcovers.

The Karate Kid Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

Sony has delivered a knockout punch with this release. The video and audio presentations are excellent and the studio has even added a few new extras to sweeten the deal. Highly recommended.
