Overview

The Italian Job 4K (2003)

The plan was flawless, the job executed perfectly and the escape clean. The only threat mastermind thief Charlie Croker never saw coming was from a member of his own crew. After pulling off an amazing gold bullion heist from a heavily guarded palazzo in Venice, Italy, Charlie and his gang — inside man Steve, computer genius Lyle, wheelman Handsome Rob, explosives expert Left-Ear and veteran safecracker Bridger — can't believe it when one of them turns out to be a double-crosser. Now, with the help of Stella, a beautiful nerves-of-steel safecracker, they plan to re-steal the gold by tapping into Los Angeles' traffic control system, manipulating signals and creating the biggest traffic jam in L.A. history.

The Italian Job 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman May 25, 2023

Paramount has released a UHD SteelBook packaging variant for the 2003 remake film 'The Italian Job.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

The Italian Job 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  1.0 of 5

Paramount's glossy and smooth SteelBook will show some handling fingerprints. The front cover artwork features a classic promotional image for the film depicting various characters from the film, most prominently Charlie and Stella, who are divided by two vertical yellow streaks. Cast names Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, and Edward Norton appear top left in white while the film's title appears in white and yellow bottom right. Much of the perimeter is black which offers a nice contrast to the yellow. The only other color splash seen is Stella's blue jeans. The rear panel is yellow with some black horizontal swaths cutting through with the text "Get in. Get out. Get even." in yellow lettering. Some Mini Coopers are seen bottom center driving towards the viewer, and a blurry helicopter appears top right. The spine is black with the film's title in white and yellow center. A Paramount logo appears at the top in white.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a yellow-dominant background with black and yellow-tinted character portraits scattered across both sides. Key cast are highlighted with prominence; secondary characters are relegated to smaller background portraits.

The Italian Job 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.0 of 5

This is a nice SteelBook. The coloring is excellent and the image dynamics are pleasing. The film is solid and the new UHD presentation is a solid step forward from the very old Blu-ray. Recommended.
