The Invincible Fist is an impressive and entertaining action epic. Produced by Run Run Shaw, The Invincible Fist is a blast of energy and storytelling. The action-packed film features great leading performances by Lieh Lo and Ching Lee. Co-starring David Chiang, Pei-Shan Chang, Chuan Chen, Shao-Chia Chen, Sing Chen, Lei Cheng, Chun Chin, Chun Erh, Mien Fang, Hsia Hsu, Sung-Hao Hsu, Pei-Chi Huang, and Feng Ku. Shaw Brothers fans won’t want to miss it.
Tieh Wu-ching (Lieh Lo) is an important constable working for the Tsang Chou Village has found himself in an unexpected scenario: he has fallen madly in love with the blind and sweet daughter Kuei Ku (Ching Lee), the daughter of the violent bandit who is causing a great commotion by attacking the villages.
The lead performances are impressive. Both Lieh Lo and Ching Lee are great in their respective roles. The dynamic between these characters is something that adds to the special qualities of the film. A wonderful energy is present between these performers. The supporting cast does a good job with expanding the film and the journey it takes audiences on as well.
The score composed by Fu-Ling Wang (The Big Boss, The Singing Killer) is remarkable and more proof that Wang is one of the most gifted composers in the history of filmmaking. Wang is an incredibly talented composer and the music adds a lot to the experience. The score certainly is an essential element of the film and part of the DNA of the experience. The score heightens the action and it provides sweeping gravitas for the drama.
The cinematography by Yoshio Mamiya (Roar of the City, Temptress of a Thousand Faces) is beautiful and the film is a gorgeous Shaw Brothers production. The visuals are such a huge part of the film and experience. The cinematography raises the bar of the filmmakers and provides serene visuals that are essential and majestic.
Edited by Hsing-Lung Chiang (The Avenging Eagle, Les Belles), The Invincible Fist is a fun and exciting film with a lot of great scenes. The editing is impressive and the effort certainly enhances the filmmaking on the whole. An important aspect of the film. Chiang is a strong editor and the editorial eye helps the film.
The art direction by Johnson Tsao (Five Element Ninjas, Legendary Weapons of China) is expansive and the creative. The art direction helps to bring the production to life. The design work is visually superb, providing the film with the ingredients necessary to make the martial arts film an epic. Tsao did great work.
The costumes by Chi Li (Five Shaolin Masters, The Deadly Duo) are worthwhile and add a lot to the film and its visual style. The actors are all given impressive costumes and the designs feel well thought-out with regards to the entire cast. Li helped to bring something special to the table.
Written by Kuang Ni (The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, The Singing Killer), The Invincible Fist is a great story and the storytelling is important to the journey of the film. The script has great character moments for the cast and the dialogue is excellent. The script is also tense and exciting with a storyline that is quite compelling. The Invincible Fist certainly builds to a great finale.
Directed by Cheh Chang (Shaolin Hellgate, Ninja in Ancient China), The Invincible Fist is another must- see Shaw Brothers classic. The Invincible Fist is a ton of fun and the filmmaking has a lot of visually stupendous aspects. The Invincible Fist is a remarkable achievement by Chang and fans of the extraordinary Shaw Brothers films won’t want to miss it.
Released on Blu-ray by Shout Factory, The Invincible Fist is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1 widescreen. The high-definition video impresses with great clarity and detail. The transfer capably reproduces the cinematography and showcases the vast beauty of the filmmaking. The encode is well-done. A great effort by Shout Factory.
The release is presented in Mandarin DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono (with English subtitles). The lossless audio presentation helps to provide an exceptional audio experience for viewers. Dialogue sounds crisp and engaging on the release. The score is well reproduced and this is one of the greatest highlights of the entire film. The lossless audio certainly helps in that regard and brings out the best of the score. The subtitles are well-done and are free from problematic errors, too.

The Invincible Fist is an enormously entertaining action epic with a great story. The filmmaking is ambitious and magnificent. Stars Lieh Lo and Ching Lee are excellent in their leading roles. The production is incredible and there are so many great elements of the film to appreciate. The presentation is impressive, too – with excellent video and audio quality. Another must-see Shaw Brothers classic. Highly recommended.
