The Immoral Three Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Brian Orndorf June 26, 2022

Director Doris Wishman had a dream, and after the death of her husband in 1958, she decided to pursue a career in filmmaking, focusing on sexploitation entertainment, hoping to reach an audience with lusty tales of revenge and love. 1975’s “The Immoral Three” is part of her colorful oeuvre, acting a sequel to “Double Agent 73,” though star Chesty Morgan didn’t return for additional spy games. How does one replace such an unforgettable screen presence? By hiring three actresses to take care of nudity requirements, which is meant to make up for Morgan’s noticeable absence. Wishman remains committed to a tale of men vs. women with “The Immoral Three,” offering bloody violence and acts of savage male behavior, trying to pick up where “Double Agent 73” left off, also working to up her technical game with a bright, more camera-aware endeavor that doesn’t live up to its potential, but offers decent Wishman-branded fun for those patient enough to find it.

Jane (Cindy Boudreau) is murdered while sunbathing. At her funeral, lawyer John (Robert S. Barba) gathers Sandy (Sandra Kay), Nancy (Michele Marie), and Ginny (Boudreau) for a reading of the will, revealing the trio are sisters, with their mother a secret government agent. The women are each offered a million dollars, but they can only collect if they decide to seek vengeance, given a year to find Jane’s killer. Set up with a living space and presented with a few leads, Sandy, Nancy, and Ginny launch an investigation, meeting with potential villains around the country as they deal with this new sibling reality, potentially putting them at odds.

“The Immoral Three” has a fantastic introduction, establishing Sandy, Ginny, and Nancy as complete strangers suddenly revealed to be sisters, with their mother conceiving the children during her superspy adventures. With Jane’s death comes a monetary reward, but only if revenge is achieved, inspiring the three women to deal with their differences and find the killer. That’s enough of a launch to get most movies in the air, but Wishman doesn’t have that thriller instinct. She’s here to celebrate the human body, offering copious amounts of nudity during the run time, keeping the actresses in various states of undress as sexploitation interests are tended to. Seductions arrive, including a gardener pulled into a lustful encounter via banana, and a delivery man doesn’t take “no” for an answer when offered a breast squeeze for a tip. Those expecting something a little more volatile will have to settle for lots of scenes involving the characters dressing and undressing.

The Immoral Three Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  4.5 of 5

The AVC encoded image (1.85:1 aspect ratio) presentation is sourced from a 2K scan of the original 35mm camera negative. Source quality is decent, with some points of damage and discoloration. Clarity is strong, with excellent details on facial surfaces and displays of skin, which is a regular occurrence in the feature. Interiors are also terrific, with defined decoration, working with an especially period home. Colors are alert, supplying a bright viewing experience that offers crisp blues and reds. Greenery is defined, along with the bright lights of Las Vegas. Delineation is satisfactory. Grain is fine and film-like.

The Immoral Three Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  4.0 of 5

The 2.0 DTS-HD MA track is basic, offering reasonably clear dialogue exchanges, which hit a few brief moments of fuzziness due to age. Scoring cues support as intended, providing an appreciable jazzy sound to the endeavor.

The Immoral Three Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  2.5 of 5

  • Commentary featured AFGA's Lars Nilsen and film historian Bret Berg.
  • And a Trailer (2:05, HD) is included.

The Immoral Three Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

Like many Wishman offerings, "The Immoral Three" is restrained by a lack of budgetary might and thespian proficiency. However, the director does show improvement with framing and editing, also adding a Las Vegas trip for Ginny to help expand the adventure (trying to sell a paneled basement as Vegas casino elevator is another story). "The Immoral Three" doesn't live up to initial expectations, but it's amusing at times, fighting production limitations with sex appeal, though it's a shame Chesty Morgan isn't around to show the stars what gratuitous nudity should really look like.
